Liberians vs. AAs

I'm beginning to hear some RW chatter about Liberia, as if there is some contrast between folks from Liberia vs AAs in the US.

I've done some online searches but can't find anything. I'm sure this is from Fox or social media but can't source it.

Any ideas?

Don't like each other. I don't know if there's any truth to it.

Like they totally love America and Americans in that country ... way more than most of Africa.

Could be remembering totally wrong, but ... that's the first that comes to mind, so ...

Is that it was settled by former (American) slaves, who despite being a small minority completely dominated the government and oppressed the native population until like the 60's or 70's.

So there's always been a connection there to Americans. Many Liberians have cousins in the US.

But Marcus Garvey (the man who started this resettlement program) was a controversial figure because to some degree, the "back to Africa" movement fit in well with the Jim Crow advocacy by southern racists-- "You don't belong here."

That's pretty offensive to many people whose families have been here since the 17th or 18th century and helped to build the nation.
