Not that I'm a regular NASCAR viewer, but I usually watch Daytona.

With Gordon gone, he quit watching so much and Daytona 500 has been it for a few years. Growing up in the South, I really dislike NASCAR and haven't watched more than a few min. with my husband in all these years. We're taking the dog walking on a nature trail for only the 2nd time today so it's a fantastic substitute for my usual Daytona 500 Sunday.

Appropriate.

If you follow sports or even just business news, you’d be hard-pressed not to see all the stories out there about NASCAR's dramatic fall in popularity over the past decade. From its height in 2005, America’s second largest sport has lost over 50 percent of its audience at live events and online.

NASCAR’s representatives and racing teams have chalked up this loss to everything from changing audience dynamics to schedule changes, all the while ensuring their sponsors (the life blood of the sport) that audiences are still there and engaged. Analysts attribute the loss to an overly long schedule, a misguided car redesign in 2007 that lowered the number of deadly but often exciting crashes and newer online entrants competing for audiences’ entertainment time and dollar.

It’s still on Fox (today) but when they went to highest bidder NBCSports they basically disappeared. NASCAR froze ESPN out of racetracks a while ago. Interviews outside the track. ESPN is losing money too but if it ain’t on ESPN it didn’t happen.

Now there are two big fat TFR's in place (temp flight rules) right over the top of WPB and Daytona.

They had something like that in the 70’s. Everyone drove basically the same car. Drivers from NASCAR INDY even Formula 1. It died.
