9. The northern New England, Alaska and Louisiana conservation officers I've worked with

over the decades share their stories of gun nut abuse. Usually the typical poaching of wildlife out of season, illegal use of bait, jacking deer with spotlights are the stories we see repeating themselves annually, because too many hunters just don't want to play by the rules.

The gun humpers that really piss us off are the boneheads who get frustrated when they can't find the game they want to shoot, like turkeys, so they start shooting anything that moves. Too many times we have gone into the woods and find dead squirrels, chipmunks, and birds just shot and left to rot in the woods, just for the sake of shooting something. About 15 years ago in Maine, an officer found 3 tiny black bear cubs shot dead next to a bait pile under a tree that had a hunters stand up in the tree. They were just killed and left to decompose.

So my comment comes from spending a career in support of fish and wildlife habitat protection/enhancement, and after seeing so much damage done, not having much respect for gun owners in general.
