I was asked if in the last two weeks I had returned from China or been around someone who had. I don't know what would have happened if I said yes but I am glad to see efforts are being made.

(17,600 posts)My doctor's office ALWAYS asks if I have traveled out of country - I think since the last time I was there, but it might be "last 2 weeks"; it's one of a laundry list they go through every time I visit.

(31,261 posts)I am going to say "Wow, glad you asked. I went to Wuhan, China for the Chinese New Year. The women in Wuhan are so cute, I kissed all that was ok with being kissed. Oh, by the way, I licked that keyboard that you have been touching for the last five minutes". Nah, my Doctor is a professional, he would never ask shit like that.

(20,584 posts)it was reception while checking in. I think they are trying to control for a potential pandemic. We do have a large Asian community and the Chinese New Year is a huge thing with lots of travel back to China and relatives coming here. There are many older men who are married to women from China who come from the Southern regions.
I think the question shows responsibility.

(31,261 posts)If not, how would you know if you have been exposed? Do you go shopping, to movies or plays, drive with you windows down, go to the library, fly on business. There are just so many potential exposure points. Why don't they ask you if you have been near anyone with the flu? It is far closer to pandemic level than the Wuhan virus.

I wonder, what would your doctor have done if you had just come back from China? I know I wouldnt want to be the one making that decision.

(31,261 posts)The people that have died have died in countries that have weak healthcare systems, China (all but one) and the Phillipines. The first person in the USA that was found to be infected has been released from the hospital.
Maybe I am dense, but in our country, I would be more afraid of the flu since I am more likely to contract it.
