NBC/WSJ poll: Country remains divided over Trump's impeachment trial

Majorities of Americans believe the president abused his power and obstructed Congress but split over whether it was enough to remove him.

WASHINGTON — Majorities of American voters believe that President Donald Trump abused his power and obstructed Congress in the Ukraine scandal, but the public remains split — largely along party lines — over whether those actions justify his removal from office.

Those are the findings of a new national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released as the U.S. Senate continues its impeachment trial of Trump, with Republicans on the verge of acquitting the president in the GOP-controlled chamber after voting against allowing witnesses.

The survey also finds Trump trailing the major Democratic presidential candidates in hypothetical matchups for the general election, and it shows how stable the president’s standing has been during the entire impeachment episode.

“We’ve been through an impeachment inquiry in the House, a trial in the Senate, and America’s attitudes about Donald Trump have hardly budged,” said Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, who conducted this survey with Republicans pollsters at Public Opinion Strategies.

Hey media, during the impeachment 75% of the public wanted witnesses, now your coming out with this normalizing bullshit of 46%/49% crap sandwich........................

Then you had this bullshit at the end of your fucking poll article socialism vs capitalism.....................eat me......................

You have party (republicans) sitting in house that thought this asshole and his criminal gang should take down the Constitution, then in the senate side you had republicans trying to have it both fucking ways and getting away with it......they just fucked the peoples house and the Constitution.......................

Then you had some republican asshole in Montana basically saying anyone that is a socialist should be shot..........................

I don’t want to depend on new and young voters. I also don’t want to depend on others who don’t reliably vote.

That means an economic downturn, in my opinion, is what will sink Trump. But that doesn’t appear to be happening. We MIGHT be headed for recession by November but we won’t know until 2021.

Obama has 69.5M votes in 2008. Hillary has 66M votes in 2016 and lost. We need those 3 million back or we need new voters.

And many of them voted for the first time in 2018.

They will definitely show up in 2020.

Dems also have a clear advantage with Independent voters now that they did not have in 2016.

I saw another poll showing a 49 to low 40's. Majority of the American people want that man gone.

Until Election Day. I think too many stayed home because they thought Hillary already had it won.

Even if we are up 99 points, it doesn’t matter unless you get out and vote. And get at least five others to vote who wouldn’t otherwise.
