HOW ABOUT THOSE CHIEFS?????
True Chiefs have waited 50 years for this and have had heartbreak and heart ache year after year and the familial maybe next year....
well that year is THIS year.

(46,385 posts)But I will be rooting for the Chiefs, unless Pence decides to tell them they should "beat Nancy Pelosi's 49'ers" like he did to the Packers today.

(10,185 posts)was the K.C. Chiefs, woot! What a great game.
We'll all be rooting for the Chiefs at our house in two weeks. What a fun team! The Packer's just weren't ready to meet them, but that would have been cool!

For one thing (and I'm speaking as a Chief's fan myself) Pence is probably dumb enough to think that somehow the Packer's belong to Pelosi. And while I'm sure she's a fan of them, and will herself be rooting for them in the big game, in the end she is just another fan. Just a bit more high profile than most.

(34,581 posts)Especially the NFL team located in our nation's capital. Shameful. I wonder what people would say if a team was called the Denver Darkies, Washington Wetbacks, or Honolulu Hebes? It's the same damned thing. Then they insult and trivialize our sacred drumming and songs. What would the reaction be if a bunch of people dressed up like the Pope came out genuflecting and crossing themselves on the sidelines while twirling around thuribles/censers?
It's not "an honor." It's an insult and reduces us to stereotypical cartoon characters.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,938 posts)in which NFL teams had a very different set of nicknames/mascots, all of which were ethnic or racial slurs. I think the underlying premise was that Native Americans, not descendants of Europeans, were running this country, and so of course saw nothing wrong with them. I did a bit of a search on-line to see if I could find that skit, but it doesn't seem to be there. Too bad, because it does make the point about insensitivity to what can be offensive.

Even today, I actually missed the beginning of the game because of a prior engagement for lunch and driving home after the game had started THERE WAS NOBODY OUT!! ROADS WERE EMPTY!!! It was crazy, like Christmas morning or something. Ok, there were a few cars but I haven't seen it like that before on a sunday, usually it is pretty crowded.

(5,355 posts)While the 49ers have ALWAYS been my favorite team and always will be, I also love the Chiefs and the Packers. The SF/KC matchup is a football fan's dream. This Super Bowl certainly has the potential to be the all time most exciting game in history. I'm as happy for Chiefs fans as I am for my own team. Looking forward to enjoying the next two weeks leading up to the Big Game.

(25,938 posts)Patrick Mahomes is the son, the football player. In the NFL. The people who made that video inadvertently named if after the dad.
I find it annoying and insulting when people get names wrong like that.
demtenjeep
(31,997 posts)we know the father was the BASEBALL player and the son is the FOOTBALL player
I find it annoying and insulting when people are buzz kills like that
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,938 posts)It's clearly labelled Pat Mahomes. That's the dad's name. The son has always gone by Patrick, mainly to distinguish himself from his father. Getting the name wrong is insulting. And they got it wrong. For me, that error is a total buzz kill.
So if later on they correctly sing "Patrick" and I didn't get that far, I apologize.
Oh, wait, I went back and watched far enough to hear them sing "Pat Mahomes".
It would be sort of like singing a song intended to be about Barrack Obama and calling him Bar Obama.
I know, I know, I get lost in the facts.
demtenjeep
(31,997 posts)yet you are gritching. Got it. Have a nice day
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,938 posts)the young Mahomes politely corrects people when they call him Pat.
That's my dad, he says. I'm Patrick.
It's genuinely disrespectful that the people making the video got it wrong.

All of that heartache has led us to here
I didnt go to memorial. I still wear my 20 yr old jersey often. One time I was wearing it on red Friday in about 2010 (worked at a college in Springfield)... sitting at my desk a student walked in. All she could see was the number on the front. She knew the number! I was fogged man! Kid had to be about eight when he passed. But she knew!
DT and Neil Smith were unstoppable! Sure wish we had an offense at that time!
