Two people are dead and another is in critical condition after a shooting at a church in White Settlement, officials said.
Multiple agencies are responding to 1900 South Las Vegas Trail in White Settlement, where the West Freeway Church of Christ is located.
MedStar spokeswoman Macara Trusty confirmed that one person died at the scene of the shooting, one person died en route to a hospital, and another person was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The shooter is believed to be one of those three people, said Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman Mike Drivdahl. Fort Worth police and fire were at the scene assisting White Settlement agencies, he said. Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were also at the scene.

The name of "White Settlement" was originally bestowed upon the community by several Indian tribes in the area. The city got its name because it was the lone village of white pioneers amid several American Indian encampments in the Fort Worth area in the Texas Republic territory in the 1840s.
On October 14, 2005, city leaders citing hurdle in attracting businesses announced a plan to have local voters decide on a possible name change for the town from White Settlement to West Settlement. In the November 8 election, the name change was overwhelmingly rejected by a vote of 2,388 to 219.

(7,413 posts)It could have been a lot worse but the shooter was stopped quickly at least. Will be interesting to see if someone specific was targeted, if the gunman was a member of the church, etc.

I live in here so pet peeve.
I was in transit to Mineral Wells, when a police SUV passed me going over 100 mph. He was probably on his way to the shooting.
Sad state of affairs

(740 posts)our mass shooting are 7 days a week 365 days of the year. So far this year we have had more mass shooting than we have had days in the year. Yet thanks to the NRA/Trump/Putin/GOP nothing will be done to even try and stop it.

(3,439 posts)..yet recalled Dylan Roof went in and prayed with them then killed 9 people, dont recall how many were injured. So if someone is intent on harming others will do just that. Is there a safe place anywhere in America?
My biggest concern is the safety of our children--are they safe, protected out of harms way? Schools places of worship, shopping centers, movie theaters? How do we protect our citizens? How can we be proactive in identifying people who wish to do us harm when tbey live among us?

(25,931 posts)Clearly the shooter is an amateur. I mean, if you can't take out at least ten, why bother?
However, no sarcasm that if guns weren't so available that these things wouldn't happen. But of course, someone else's right to murder people is far more important than anyone's right to stay alive.

Yeah. Let's have a few more, and then see how many folks just stay home.

(2,751 posts)Watched a quick video on Youtube about this. The host said that white conservatives are being targeted in places of worship around the country blah, blah.
I remain speechless when they say shit like that. I know who they are talking to when they say these things. It still amazes me anyone eats it up and takes it as fact.

(77 posts)Meanwhile, at least five other worshippers pull out handguns and slowly approach the shooter. The man who shot the gunman kicks away the gunmans firearm and picks it up.
Good grief, at least 5 others?
It could have turned into a slaughter house!

(28,521 posts)against another member. Just assuming this because a) it's a white church; b) members are armed in the pews; c) The shooter had an argument with someone before he started shooting. Maybe he's just related to someone in the church community. But I'm guessing since this doesn't seem to be racially or ethnically motivated, and they didn't mention the race of the shooter, it wasn't a random attack on Christianity, it was a personal, targeted shooting.

(37,364 posts)a video of the man pulling a gun out of his coat and a guy on the other end of the pew going for his own. They the reported that several other church goers pulled guns and shot. The shooter is dead. Wonder how many of the others were hit by their fellow congregants.
The shooter took two shots hitting two congregants.
One shot was taken by a member/security which hit the shooter in the head.
No need to speculate when you can see the video.

(12,162 posts)that most churches in Lincoln, including hers (Methodist), have armed security guards. It never occurred to me that someday it would be physically dangerous to attend church.
