His administration started the changes that are giving us the nightmare we are experiencing in SSI today......

He was a mean-spirited bastard beneath that "congenial" facade.

Hard to know, though, when he became merely an addled spokesman, rather than an opportunistic ideologue.

That was my first election...1980. I have voted Dem in every single election since then, down ballot all the way, like I was raised to do. Three proud generations of Dems. My grandmom was invited to Carter's inauguration and was swearing in Italian at Reagun (and Nancy) until she died ar 103 a few years ago. He is the first POTUS I started writing to. Everyone at my art school dorm was happy when he was shot (we artists are pretty anti-Conservative/anti-GOP). I couldn't find ANY work doing anything in the 80s. Reagun killed any hope for tons of Americans for decades to come. Fucking bastard...yes, that is how I really feel!

which is why I bought the instant I was in a position to do so. I have been able to keep my mortgage payment pretty steady on a slight downward trend for a while now .. the most recent refi was to a shorter term and a lower payment - not much lower, but lower.

Of course owning isn't everything ... I still have to be worried about any extra-ordinary expenses.

And, no, I didn't vote for Reagan, not being crazy then or now.

I'm not even collecting yet, but it just enrages me that seniors should have to pay for the Reagan tax cuts by receiving lower SS payments. And it's only going to get worse under republican administrations. They want the poor and elderly to suffer as much as possible. The cruelty is the point.
