So the language they used last night was new (to me) and interesting.

Instead of Gay Marriage and Sexual Orientation, it was FREEDOM to marry who you LOVE. Gay marriage was always awkward, like it was somehow not real marriage, there was something different and foreign about it. Sexual orientation sounds clinical. But freedom is a American value. And everybody is pro-love, right? Freedom and love are strong, visceral words; common, easily understood and respected.

It also seems like now that dems have committed to supporting the freedom to marry who you love and are framing it as a civil rights issue instead of a moral issue, they are actually trying to lead, not being all mealy mouthed and wishy washy about it.

So is it just me? I really like the new language.

I kept pinching myself last night, wondering if they were actually standing up for liberal values or if I just have incredibly low standards after so many years of Republican appeasement. But over and over last night, they drove home the point that people should have the freedom to marry who they love. Did they use the word freedom for reproductive rights as well?

I suspect including freedom for reproductive rights would simply be a natural evolution. Patience, grasshopper, give it a few days.

FREEDOM to marry who you LOVE, that's a human right.

Talking points include "not limiting the freedom to marry." It makes sense, and people are responding to it.

Freedom to Marry task forces have been around for over a decade. And a much better phrase than the discriminatory "gay marriage" is marriage equality. What the fuck is gay marriage? Is it different than hetero marriage and we sure don't refer to marriage between straights as hetero or straight marriage. Marriage is marriage. that's the whole point of equlity.

it's not even close to being new language. you just aren't very well informed.

Maybe you could try encouraging people when they are feeling positive about something? The "language" may not be new to you, but it's newish to me (and i live in MA) and it's certainly new to the Dem Party.

10. Perfect way to say it. And we all know that the GOPers are always saying they are for 'freedom'

so now let's see how many come out and say they are against this particular 'freedom'.

I hope all the folks on TV start framing it as a civil rights issue and shove the word 'freedom' in the face of the republicans every time !

"Sexual orientation" IS a clinical term. In fact, I think it was my field (psychology) that created the term.

Here's another to try, does this resonate? "Equal marriage"

or this "The Right to Marry"
