(10,170 posts)I joined fully expecting to have to fight Russians. We never did, but in Russia they never had freedom of speech.
If Putin, the little short mobster, had not taken control of Russia they may have gotten that freedom.
We in the US have it today and I'll be damn if some old man can't get his act together enough to understand the importance of that freedom.
It wasn't for wannabe mobster that most Vets signed up to fight for.

(15,539 posts)and all walks of life. Not all veterans are worthy of being honored. Wasn't Timothy McVeigh a veteran? I can think of many others who are/were assholes also.

(9,983 posts)By a large cop. Time to check for weapons, and a few counts of misdemeanor assault. Right after a nice little "72 hour psych hold" to get his attention....

(9,983 posts)In NH, sufficient threats seem to do it! And judges here take "Criminal Threatening" seriously enough that misdemeanor assault is a minor charge.

(153,160 posts)I served four years, but since I was a GI brat I moved constantly while growing up.....mention a year and I have to think about where I was, although a song can take me back instantly

(22,976 posts)I think it was YEARS ago when DUers posted their photos online (how times have changed), and yours was taken when you were in the service. Somehow I thought you were still active.
Funny how a song has such power in our memories. Just ONE song can bring a flood of images from another time, down to recalling the very street you were driving on when it first played on your car radio.
It all goes by too fast.

(11,098 posts)He's wearing tech corporal rank (a WWII rank - now obsolete) and enlisted disks above the notch on the blouse collar BUT infantry officer brass below the notch. These things do not belong together. Similarly, a T-corporal ought not have officer's braid on his blouse cuff.
The above makes me skeptical of the Combat Infantry Badge and other awards. I'd like to see his discharge documents.

Let's just say that I'm curious about his uniform and would like to see his discharge documents.

(23,402 posts)There for surrender of Japan? I guess it could be true. If so he aged well.
I knew the guy was hinky, and now I know just how nuts. I had to look up his unit patch which is real folk but fully understand the difference between what we called "specialists" and hard stripers....he was a pogue which in my experience meant a non-combat type...
TomSlick
(11,098 posts)From my limited research, technicians could be assigned to combat units during WWII - just like specialists can now. A T-Corporal would almost certainly not have been an infantry soldier but at various times in the past, the criterion for the CIB were less clear than now. The newer, stricter rules are the reason the Army adopted the Combat Action Badge, for non-infantry or SF soldiers who were engaged in combat. I have seen the CAB on the uniforms of all manner of folks - including JAG officers (usually JAGs assigned to brigade combat teams).
As a retired Army JAG, I will try not to take exception at the reference to "pogue." I prefer "desk-borne ranger."

(959 posts)his service was to the totality of the constitution. Not just the parts he agrees with.
He fought so those people could be there calling out 'his guy'.. If he doesn't like it, he can go on a 72 month VA Medical strike.
