(31,261 posts)to come to work in dress casual as a suit, same with office staff. Even elegant topcoats are becoming less frequently seen today, technical fabrics allow people to wear simpler jackets, or even sweaters.

(31,261 posts)Pretty much every person was in a suit and tie. The few women that I saw had on rather elegant dresses. People simply don't dress like that today. I only own dark suits for funerals. I have dress shirts, but wear them so infrequently that I seldom have to replace them.
Stores like Barney's, Sachs, Nordstrom, Macy's prospered when people dressed formally for regular events like work and ballgames.
