General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsRick Perry says Trump telling lies about him.
According to one source, Trump said words to the effect of: "Not a lot of people know this but, I didn't even want to make the call. The only reason I made the call was because Rick asked me to. Something about an LNG [liquified natural gas] plant," and the other two sources agreed with that recollection, Axios reported.
But on Friday, Perry -- the Republican former governor of Texas who has served as energy secretary since March 2017 -- told the Christian Broadcasting Network in an exclusive interview that his dealings in Ukraine were part of a U.S. effort to help clean up corruption there, but the Bidens names never came up during his discussions with Trump administration officials.
I never heard, and I talked to the president about this, Perry told the Christian network. I had a conversation with - a phone call - with [Trump attorney] Rudy Guiliani about it. I've talked to the previous [U.S.] ambassador [to Ukraine]. I've talked to the current ambassador.
Ive talked to Kurt Volker, Gordan Sondland, the EU ambassador, every name that you've seen out in the media, and not once, not once as God is my witness, not once was a Biden name -- not the former vice president, not his son -- ever mentioned.

Now's your chance to do a second good thing.
And you can just forget about a third thing, Rick. (Ooops)
Made me even feel a wee bit sorry for the dude.
But, every one of these Republicans are stuck laying in bed with Trump now as he pisses and shits all over that bed.

(9,090 posts)it's just one more excuse/diversion for the trump basse to pick and choose from to help them deny the obvious
that's the authoritarian mind addled by sex on the wrong brain
every time they deny it requires use of the creative side of the brain to rationalize it, and that's when a packet of the trapped sex energy escapes to the pleasure centers

(26,403 posts)Rick is a weak personality - a useful idiot for those around him. He is a corrupt politician, not a corrupt mobster.
To be honest, he has never shown the ability to handle the type of strong personality and crudeness needed to serve as the strong arm of the mob. Yes, he's a crook and corrupt, but not this way.
I actually believe him in this case. Such a world.

(62,530 posts)Im in Austin for 26 years and have lived through moron gov after another. And as stupid as geirge w. Moron* was/is, perry is perhaps the most fucking stupid person ever.
Hes is nothing more than the typical opportunistic mailable repuke moron, that those behind the scene, parade out as there new flavor of the month. Perry, however, wouldnt have gotten as far as he did if it wasnt for his superpower of knowing which way the wind blows and how to make the best use of that change for his own benefit.
A Political opportunist that will sell out or blame the first person other than himself for his own fuck ups. Hes Benedict Donald lite.
Live in Austin as well - over 50 years. I've seen them come and go. Still miss Ann - the last good Governor we had.
I have run into people who have served around Perry and have heard the stories.

(14,764 posts)Perry is in this up to his fake eyelashes. He is trying to lay a meme that all the diplomatic efforts were against corruprion in general, which is a damned lie. All of their efforts were laser focussed on trump's re-election efforts. Biden was target zero.
Perry is a lying bastard. So what didn't we know?

(14,174 posts)Yes, on one hand he said he never called Trump personally on "Something about an LNG [liquified natural gas] plant" but Trump may have been speaking in the sense that someone from his office got a call from someone in Perry's office. And the whole thing was only about this natural gas plant. (Trump trying to red herring the story...like he did claiming his dirt gathering meeting with Russians was about orphaned babies). Nowhere does the article indicate Trump is accusing him of asking to get dirt on the Bidens. Trump's team is concocting a story that the phone call actually had a purpose other than asking for a "favour".
But the second point is what is disgusting. Perry is actually trying to exonerate Trump by saying he never heard Biden's name come up once with any calls with Trump or Giuliani ever in regards to the Ukraine. That is the key point of the article. And why it is a story on the Fox News website. All he was doing was clarifying that he didn't personally speak about it with the President. But he's still a loyal foot soldier, and was telling this Christian business group that as far as he can tell, Rudy and Donnie are squeaky clean.

Grossly incompetent, and clearly pointing out to all w/ the tiniest bit of logic in their heads that if this party (GOP) which has been around for so long, allowed itself to be held hostage in this manner by the likes of rump, does not deserve any say in the affairs of this Country, being that it is 'Party' first, 'Country' last with the GOP.

Or, given the position they put themselves in before our masters in Moscow, perhaps they should be called the Prostrate Eight: Sens. Richard C. Shelby (Ala.), Steve Daines (Mont.), John Hoeven (N.D.), John Neely Kennedy (La.), Jerry Moran (Kan.), John Thune (S.D.) and Johnson, plus Rep. Kay Granger (Tex.).

Sigh.
This is the price of dumbing down the schools out of 'christian concern,' and allowing the massive right-wing propaganda to be spread unchecked through talk radio and stations like Fox and now Sinclair.
The kids don't learn the facts, and they don't learn to think critically. Then they grow up and vote in a demagogue like Trump. Their ignorance makes them surprised when he betrays them, and when it turns out that all he ever did was lie to them.

(22,670 posts)Sounds like his story is flimsy and wouldn't hold up under scrutiny from real journalist questioning. I'm pretty sure he knew exactly what tRump's message was and why he was going to UKR and not Mike Pence. Why else would the "energy secretary" be asked to do the job of a SoS or other high placed administration official.
Only some of this adds up.

(3,131 posts)All Ive read is that trump said perry wanted him to talk to ukraine about some LNG deal Probably a corrupt LNG deal but havent seen an details.
Its suspicious as hell to me that Perry is preemptively denying talking about about the Bidens.
If I was overly suspicious Id think the LNG deal was a sweetener to the aid package to push ukraine to invent dirt on the Bidens. Maybe to get some oligarchs to help pressure the government.
Just idle speculation
