Democrats Concerned Trump Will Incite Violence

Were the collective nerve endings of the electorate not so frayed and numbed by now, we might be even more alive to the ugliness of this message from the White House. One of the consequences of the Trump Presidency is the way that it constantly diminishes our expectations of anything other than hideous rhetoric and action. But there are those who are intensely aware of the potential consequences of such a threat. Sources close to Schiff told The New Yorker on Monday that Democrats in Congress are deeply worried about the President using Twitter to incite violence and to direct it at specific members.

The threat to Schiff via Twitter came just a few days after the President, speaking at the United States Mission to the United Nations, said that whoever provided information to the whistle-blower about his July 25th telephone call with the President of Ukraine was “close to a spy.” Trump went on to wax nostalgic about how spies were dealt with “in the old days”—with the death penalty, in other words. “As soon as I heard that, I thought, He has the soul and the mind of an authoritarian,” Nicholas Burns, a former high-ranking diplomat who has served in Republican and Democratic Administrations, told me. “What other President in American history would say that?”

The offhanded encouragement of vengeance, even violence, is hardly new or unusual for Trump. Some selections from the anthology of incitement.

5. What is the value to him?

One, incite fear for people who take him seriously.

Two, trigger his base to start something in a concerted way, (not a civil war) that triggers a crisis that could give him an excuse to declare Martial Law. That would be a game changer.

That may be unlikely, all things considered, but it does bring up the worrisome idea that the "right circumstances" for him would be something along the lines of the Reichstag fire. It is that kind of scenario that concerns me because the false flag is a way that expert despots take more power in an expedient way. Right now, I wouldn't put it past him. He has every reason to instigate something catastrophic in order to stay in power.

If it looks like Trump will actually be convicted by the US Senate, or if he loses the 2020 election, I think what you stated is a very real possibility. Whether the military would oblige is another question. Some would, some would not. And if, at that point, he's lost the support of at least half of the Republicans in Congress, I think he'd have a tough time holding onto power.

That said, I'm not sure enough of Trump's supporters - as disturbed as they are - would be willing to wreak sufficient havoc. Some are, as we've seen, nutty enough to get violent. But most, I suspect, are only violent in thought and speech, which is bad enough.

7. All those who are concerned that 45 won't leave office after a 2020 defeat aren't off base...

Look at how fang-and-claw desperate 45 and his sycophants are— thumbing their collective nose at subpoenas; threatening whistleblowers; seeking to
punish political opponents, claiming some kind of fictitious moral high ground...on it goes.

Judging by the manner with which TrumpCo has handled the impeachment proceedings so far, it’s not so difficult to see him contesting the results of a national election.

10. And they will tie it up for as long as they could, even after the new President is sworn in.

He and his administration won't attend the inaugural. Everything will come to halt in d.c. The SCOTUS will have to get involved. He will leave kicking and screaming. I have envisioned this for a long time.

Look at the rise in violent hate crimes since he rode his fat orange ass down the escalator. He even offered legal help to those who committed them.

I would worry more about the violence he HAS incited already.
