Negotiations aimed at dismantling Pyongyangs nuclear and missile programs have stalled since the collapse of a second summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi in February.
Trump and Kim met again in June at the border between North Korea and South Korea and agreed to reopen working-level talks, but that has not happened.
We know Chairman Kim has continued to make the commitment to denuclearize. We are hopeful that in the coming days or perhaps weeks well be back at the negotiating table with them. Thats the best outcome, Pompeo said in an interview with ABCs This Week.

38 North, a webjournal that provides analysis and insights into North Korea
Stephen Beigun's speech on September 6, at the University of Michigan, offered little but vague platitudes unlikely to result in renewed dialogue with North Korea. In fact, his speech was less promising than public statements he has made in the past and represents the retrenchment to the hardline position by the US, revealed at Hanoi, alongside his apparent lack of authority to negotiate.
Remarks by Special Representative for North Korea Stephen E. Biegun at the University of Michigans Weiser Diplomacy Center, Sep 6, 2019; https://www.state.gov/remarks-by-special-representative-for-north-korea-stephen-e-biegun-at-the-university-of-michigans-weiser-diplomacy-center/
I was thinking that this typhoon which damaged North Korean farmlands would provide an ideal opportunity to show goodwill by the US, but I doubt if the hardliners in the administration would try to take advantage of it. If the US doesn't get away from the Bolton hard line, there won't be any progress with North Korea, it will just remain another regime change policy.
