(46,757 posts)Take an oath to serve the president. There is just no precedent in standing up to a white president, though I remember they tried to spread the meme that the military would not respect Clinton. Maybe this is a turning point?

(11,109 posts)The oath of enlisted personnel includes obedience to orders of the President and "officers appointed over me" but the officer's oath does not.
I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
All military personnel are taught from the earliest days that they must not obey illegal orders - orders to commit a crime. Obedience to orders is not a defense to a criminal charge.

(2,855 posts)during trips between Alaska = Kuwait so they can patronize trump's resort there and pay exorbitant prices for fuel at the local airport, to the tune of $11,000,000. The airport was failing and was going to take Turnberry down with it until trump pulled this.

28,000 x $3.85 = $107,800.00
Sooo...
$11,000,000.00 / $107,800.00 = 102 refueling
Which is what Natasha said about 50 trips, two stops per trip.
The corrupt military who allowed this must be found and dishonorably discharged.

(4,723 posts)Right before she moves on to the next shitty bill she can vote on after pretending she might have a conscience.
Day after day, Republican sit on their asses and either say nothing or actually defend this utter lunacy. I guess if he wore a tan suit or used the wrong mustard, maybe THEN their heads would explode.

(42,770 posts)Actually go through with it and impeach (late)...we had better make damn sure our candidate can beat him. But without success on protecting the vote..we are probably screwed there too.

(4,341 posts)Dictators preparing for a dictatorship will find ways to corrupt the high ranking military. Someone at DU, who was at the military was offended by this, he/she politely defended it and I explained that the corruption is usually at the very top, Flynn, Petreus...exhibit one.
Dictators need the military to succeed, without that muscle they are nothing.
I worry about this development because although the lower ranks most probably are full of patriotism, they are brainwashed to follow orders. Go through history and see how police, military in dictatorships turn against their own.
We are in very dangerous territory, the military is enabling this crook, very dangerous. More troublesome is the fact they dont want to collaborate with information that is being asked of them.
I find the creature extremely repulsive, I keep asking myself what it is he does that makes people become corrupt to help someone they know will throw them under the bus 1st chance he gets, what makes people loose their patriotism? Or is it they were never patriotic?

(22,976 posts)Its amazing how fast our democracy toppled. It can be regained, but it will be like scrubbing a patio with a toothbrush long and painful.
On edit: Wish I could be more upbeat, but things are utterly insane right now. And the Russians have a wide-open invitation to meddle in the 2020 election.
