The GOP and the Romney campaign have been trying to overcome the "image" of their candidate, and the platform and policies of the party.
In an attempt to humanize Mitt, they have trotted out his wife and kids and neigfhbors and friends and co-workers to portray him as Atticus Finch, the absolutely decent, idealistic and unassuming hero of the novel and movie To Kill a Mocking Bird.....Mitt as Gregory peck, the quiet man who loves his wife, is goofy and homespun and a man who will do anything to help his neighbors. A champion of women, lover of immigrants and protector of the less fortunate.
Kind of makes you want to cry what a saint he is.
But then there is the other Mitt. The professional and political Mitt. His image is more like Attila the Hun. The hardassed take-no-prisoners slash-and-burn Severely Conservative warrior who swoops down and vanquishes anything in his path in his drive for conquest.Get out of the way you widows and orphans or we'll crush you! Victory is all!!!!
I dunno. Maybe he truly is a nice guy in his personal life. Maybe he is Atticus Finch when he's off duty.
But what matters -- which I hope doesn't get overshadowed by the propaganda -- is that in his business dealings, political ideology and professional ethics, he is Attilla the Hun.
I just pray enough voters see that to make him an also-ran in November.

(13,669 posts)Atticus was a man of character and principal. He was willing to do what was right no matter what it might cost him.
A far better comparison might be Ward Cleaver, Beaver and Wally's dad.
But Atticus- hell no.

(5,995 posts)Always thoughtful if somewhat bemused at the Bev. Never shoved his sons' faces into the butter or cheated to win a foot race.
Better to compare to the Tim Allen character. A self important ass taking credit for the work and sacrifice of others.

(21,925 posts)I couldn't care any less about his private life and whether he loves his wife and children, loves his dog, and believes or doesn't believe in God. I don't want to elect a friend or a Saint to office. I want someone in the office who I can trust to represent my interests and the best interests of the country. Period.
