Donny Deutsch, a regular on Morning Joe panelist came up with a great marketing strategy for Democrats. The panel had nervous laughter when Donny was done with the presentation.

(63,221 posts)I think this is a brilliant marketing strategy and that is what we need. A marketing strategy, because we do not seem to have a crystallizing message and I think this could be it.
Thank you!

(22,670 posts)Some smart democratic candidates should pick up on this and run with it. I would.
Put republicans on defense, defending why they are the part of ASSAULT.

They have made us the bad guys for decades. Now it is time to turn the tables.
Instead of "Put a Spell on You"...
Let's put a "Smell" on you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are offensive to everything good and moral!

(5,313 posts)...kinda off topic, but I did the costume graphics on Bette's "Hocus Pocus" costume in the video.
I was given the original costume from the movie - which had been on display to the public somewhere in Disneyland, I think a gift shop - and I copied and reproduced the graphics from the original because the Disney Corp would not allow the original to go on tour with Bette.
I had never seen the finished product until I saw this video, so thanks, Dave in VA!
And, on topic, I think labeling the GOP as the Party of Assault is a pretty good idea.

(15,682 posts)for Democrats. I may not have put it into words yet but I've been thinking it for years now. We build things. Republicans tear them down. It already feels like they've assaulted us on every issue we care about; health care, reproductive rights, gun safety...The list goes on and on. How hard would it be to start calling it what it honestly is? Plain and simply, assault.

(36,478 posts)They'll come up with some weak slogan that no one will remember a day after the election. They've ignored framing the debate & capturing the narrative for over 40 years now. Also, the other side has thrown the rule book in the trash. "When they go low, we go high," no longer applies.

(18,125 posts)Republicans have been much better at defining the narrative than Democrats. Donny Deutsch has a great idea about how the Dems can take back our country, and I hope they listen to him. The key is two simple words: assault and protect. These are easy to understand and everyone in America should relate on a base level.

(56,828 posts)1) I think Lakoff has worked for a few individual Democratic campaigns and/or smaller groups
2) Democrats are not as good at following directions from "on high" - Republicans get their talking points and follow them religiously. When Dems try to do the same, there is always a Zell Miller, Joe Lieberman or Joe Manchin that disagrees.
2a) With big bucks supporters, Republicans like the Koch Brothers, Sheldon Adelson, the Walton family and (previously) Richard Mellon Scaife, are willing to give to RW Super PACS and causes and be mostly hands off as long as the cause is being advanced. Democratic big bucks supporters have generally tried to be more "hands on" and push left wing groups to support their pet causes. So, the Republican money people may be assholes, but they are willing to lose money and races in the short-term as long as they advance RW causes over the long haul. Democratic money people may be better people overall, but they're not as willing to lose money to advance the cause long-term or to let the political people do their thing.

(2,855 posts)Use framing to activate the human mind and brain, on a deep neurological level.
People vote their values -- they do not vote on policies, programs or even on facts.

Republicans are assaulting women, children, and babies.
Republicans are assaulting your planet, your home.

Primal IS the word.
Fla Dem
(23,691 posts)he does come up with some good marketing ideas. The ASSAULT theme could really work. Everytime they (Republicans/Trump ) brings up something they're against, the candidate, or party labels it an assault on; the middle class, the low income citizens, the college students, the handicapped, the sick, the elderly etc.

Sum it up!
People are at work, on a break etc and not everyone can watch videos
people also have limited bandwidth.
Do DU members a favor and tell us what was said, why you think the speaker's point is so important, you know, CONTEXT.
