https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_%22Doc%22_WacholzHere is the excerpt, while its lasts:
Steve "Doc" Wacholz (born May 11, 1962) is an American Bigot heavy metal drummer. He was the drummer of Savatage from 19791994 and was known for playing a large three bass drum kit. He is better known in 2019 as the owner of 'Cherokee Guns' in Murphy, North Carolina and for inflammatory billboards and stickers advertising the gun shop which call Congresswomen 'idiots' - next to the words that the gun shop is one mile away. He has further told the press "They're socialists, from my point of view," he told the local paper, before adding a bigoted trope. "I also feel a couple of them, being Muslim, have ties to actual terrorists groups." https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/How-the-hell-is-this-not-inciting-violence-Gun-14271829.php . He also inexplicably had a billboard depicting Donald Trump, known for his avoiding the draft due to curable bonespurs (he played basketball with them), as a muscle-bound action man. The congresswomen are Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts. Despite targeting these elected reps who are from a variety of backgrounds and accusing them of having ties to terrorist groups, Wacholz is at pains to paint himself as non-racist. Many would disagree, witness the comments on Cherokee's Facebook page, which say that a sticker of the Congresswomen portrayed as 'idiots' will go to fans who visit: and eat a piece of bacon - an unveiled racist jibe at Islamic and Jewish faiths. The police and DA have failed to take any action despite this overt racism and the billboard. "How the hell is this not inciting violence?" Tlaib asked in a Wednesday evening tweet. [2][1]
I did not know the guy was a "musician", although doubtfully a very good one.

(5,260 posts)Lived in Murphy NC for a while. Beautiful scenery, lovely mountains. Also the place that hid the Atlanta bomber for five years. Not a place for a DUer.

(76 posts)A terrible mix of 70% dRumpf fanatics, tea party county commissioners, and just plain poor folks who only watch one source of info Monday through Saturday and get it from their preachers on Sunday.
One bright spot, the Arts community thrives, making islands of progressive and enlightened thinkers.
The company that owns the bill board is removing Doc's ad after a lot of community complaints, but now I see on Facebook some local self styled patriot says he was called upon to organize a show of support for the bill board crap. A meet up right at the billboard on the highway Saturday morning.
It's embarrassing.
I see someone here on DU mentioned Eric Rudolph, another local extremist. I am pleased that the chief of police here is the young rookie who caught Rudolph when the huge federal law enforcement effort failed.

(5,260 posts)Loved and miss my beautiful mountain home. But am so much more comfortable amongst my Democratic family and friends. So enjoyed the little bookstore in town.

(76 posts)Bookstore still going well. Right across the street from my Art Council office, and I'm one of their regular customers. If I end up moving from here I think I'll drift into the Scottish Hebrides.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
