Seems to me ratings will be down on all their programming and as a result of the reduction in viewers.Won't they take a hit on advertising/commercial revenue?

(33,643 posts)The 'anybody ... anybody ... anybody?' scene in FBDO is a totally different scene than 'Bueller ... Bueller ... Bueller?'.
It's the same dude, doing the same thing (Ben Stein of course) ... but they're not the same scene.
They've been so commonly 'put together' in the years since I'd watched it that I had totally forgotten.

(512 posts)CBS is blocked by Direct at this time for viewers

(4,288 posts)In my area it is the Fox local channel. Nexstar has about 120 local stations. I think the blackout on Nexstar may have expanded to include some CBS Nexstar locals. CW is affected too in my area but I never watch anything on CW.

(42,833 posts)CBS has the leverage. These fights always end with the cable/satellite company giving in.
Consider the following: Some of the viewers will drop ATT/DirecTV and switch to a different distributor which will mitigate the ratings hit and give CBS retransmission consent revenues from that distributor. Meanwhile, ATT/DirecTV will be losing $50 or more per subscriber that switches -- and that customer won't be coming back soon.

(8,419 posts)Not due to the CBS thing directly.
But I am tired of them charging $100 per month for basic and not having Pac12 network (due to contractual fights) and now CBS.
Big thing was picture quality. Father in Law has the same tv as me, but a better picture. Difference was he was with cable provider.
Swithed and the picture quality is better.
Now I don't like my cable provider, for years I had phone, internet, and TV from them and flipped to Direct about 10 years ago.
Phone obviously went away so just had internet. Tried to flip to a AT$T package but horrible speeds in my neighborhood. Then they did the typical raise the rate thing. F Them, and in two year is will be F the cable company.

(32,997 posts)The only other option for us is Comcast. Were trying to figure out how to completely cut cable. So sick of this crap.

I understand some people live in apartments and some people live in no signal zones. But if you want "free TV" a good antenna and positioned properly is IMO the best way to go. Individual TV stations can help with over the air reception advice.
This helps when a) the cable goes out, b) there's a dispute between broadcaster and cable/satellite company, and c) to watch stations not carried by the local cable company or on the satellite. It also allows one to cut the cable/satellite "cord" and still get local TV channels.
