So said Scott Jennings on CNN tonight, adding, We have a set of issues and policies to run on.
Heres the problem, Scott: Your party is already running ugly because its the only way your pResident knows how to run, and there isnt a single Republican who has the balls to tell him to do otherwise.
He has now demonstrated his intention to use racism as the cornerstone of his re-election campaign and no one among the powers-that-be in the GOP will stand up to him, no less stop him. They will do exactly what theyve done from the day he became your partys nominee. They will dance to whatever tune he whistles they will make excuses for him, they will lie for him, they will deny that his own words were ever spoken and that his own actions ever took place.
I found your remarks tonight to be rather amusing, as you promoted the idea that your party has other policies to run on. And what are those policies, Scott? The policy of separating brown children from their parents? The policy of locking brown people in filthy cages like animals, while denying them showers? The policy of identifying Mexicans as rapists, Muslims as terrorists, or labelling countries brown and black people come from as shithole countries?
Your pResidents entire tenure in office has been an exercise in promoting racism. His base loves it and as he said yesterday, he thinks hes winning the political debate by pursuing that strategy.
If I were you, Scott, Id spread the word among your fellow Republicans. Its time to start coming up with talking points that make being a racist something thats laudable, patriotic, and good for the country because your pResident isnt going to change his tune and your party, as always, is going to dance to that tune, no matter how ugly it is.
In fact, your pResident handed you a perfect slogan just today, when he said that those who chanted Send her back! at his rally were patriots.
So you might want to start printing those bumper-stickers now, Scott because that sentiment is exactly what you and your party are going to be promoting between now and next November.
The Republican party is the party of racism. Of course, most of us have known that for a very long time. But now youre going to have to say it out loud and youre going to have to say it with the same conviction and enthusiasm youve displayed while covering for your presidents lies, making excuses for his incompetence, and explaining away his obvious corruption.
So welcome to the 2020 campaign, Scott. Your party will be running ugly so get used to it, because its not like you or your party members have the spine to do otherwise.

Personally, I very much want to do so.

(8,200 posts)The Republicans fifty years ago chose to be the party of the racists. As a consequence, it is totally unable to extract its self from this disastrous path without resulting in complete loss of any credibility with it adherents. I believe that it has sealed its own demise. It is like a vicious wounded monster that continues to be dangerous, but is living on borrowed time. Its message of exclusion is the message of eventual total self annihilation. It is a fascinating contradiction of claims of moral certitude and righteousness that exposes it glaring hypocrisy. I may not be around to see it, but I am convinced their days are numbered. You can fool some of the people all the time and some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all of the time.

(17,984 posts)(and I know it seems farcical that voters wouldn't be able to tell republicans are racist already) then I think we can achieve two things. First, GOP voters must admit they, too, are racist. Second, and perhaps more importantly, we create a sense of urgency that will draw third party voters and non-voters to our side. We need to get as many people as possible out to vote next year, and I think this is the way to do it. Our messaging should make this very clear: either you vote Dem, or you vote racist. Now that may seem a like mudslinging, but it is the truth. I don't have a problem with it at all.

(2,227 posts)which, for the republicans, will seem awfully ugly.
Sad when your actions are thrown back in your face, with tape and video documentation that it IS the truth, and not "fake news".
Now we just have to make sure the democrats have the spine to do it, and the media will get it out there...
Yes, I know, ever the optimist!

(40,210 posts)flailing about like a fish on the deck of a boat bemoaning how Trump has changed the Republican Party. They looked lost and full of desperation.
It was kind of pathetic, all these republicans who are blaming Trump for poisoning the party with racism.
They are in such denial, wanting so hard to believe that the Republican Party hadnt been nurturing racism 1/2 inch under the radar for decades. What is different now is that it is getting said out loud.
The republicans who cant abide by overt racism should just accept that now they have to leave the party or get labeled a racist. They should embrace the opportunity. It could be very cathartic.

(27,814 posts)... the unraveling of the Republican party, that 'great day in the morning' when their lies, their deceit, their self-serving interests would be exposed.
It is ironic - and deeply satisfying - that that unraveling is not due to Democrats pointing out their corruption, but due to their own hubris in electing a snake and assuming he wouldn't bite them in the ass, and fatally so.

(53,410 posts)abortion and illegal immigrants as election wedge issues for as long as Ive been politically aware. Theyve rolled all these scary bogeymen out every two years for decades. Then they were momentarily at a total loss when the LGBT community finally got the right to marry like everyone else.
This left them at a real loss. All those wedge issues were gone, out of their reach. Until Trump busted it all to hell by introducing himself as the next president determined to run as a racist, a misogynist, a Xenophobic madman ready to destroy all the gains accrued by non white men and women, promising to Make America Great Again! Evidently everyone being truly an equal human being has taken the America they all pine for away. No! Trump will restore the real America! The White America! The Great America that all us women and colored people have ruined! Ruined!
