(90,683 posts)...do the rest. I am goddam sick of watching so-called Dems and so-called progressives self-righteously form the circular firing squad yet again. I'm way too old for this -- I just want to grab someone's shoulders and shake them till their teeth rattle.

(11,738 posts)There have always been inter-generational struggles as well as struggles from within the spectrum of the Democratic Party. Remember that we represent everyone from Conservatives like Manchin, to Democratic Socialists. The left has always seen the "establishment" as being in the way of "true progress". The older experienced "establishment" have seen the younger, more aggressive lefties as impertinent and rash (the way they once were).
Remember what Will Rogers said back in the 1930's: I am not a member of any organized political party....I'm a Democrat.
Conservatives have one ideological imperative: Protect the power structure and allow the wealthy (and White) to remain wealthy and in power. That is it. That is what they are about.
Liberals of which most Democrats are have a multitude of issues and they pursue them with varying degrees of intensity. That always makes for conflict but it is what is needed for progress.
The difference in the modern age is that media is consolidated and corporate, and social media (also corporate now) is instantaneous. Fights that would likely have not made a blip on the radar back in the 30's or 50's or 80's or even the 90's are now amplified and analyzed and repeated by a 24 hour news cycle that thrives on conflict and for the most part is designed to maintain the status quo.
The Russians don't need to be involved in this aspect.
