there would be an appointment and Senate vote for confirmation.

Under the original constitution the Pres and VP were based on vote count, with top 2 being P/VP. They found it didn't work well. It was one of the first Amendments after the Bill of Rights to be passed.

Gerald Ford was appointed VP and confirmed by the Senate as was Nelson Rockefeller.

One- if Pence were to become President, Pelosi would not become VP unless he selected her as such. Under succession people are not 'advanced' to the next position. The new President chooses their VP as Ford did with Rockefeller.

Two- tRump is not "going" down. We are stuck with him for at least another year and a half

And if you wanna know why, imagine how nervous you’d be every day with a Dem pres saddled with a Repug vp.

mostly.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-fifth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

First, there is no mention of parties in the Constitution, and therefore no prohibition on a Veep of another party. I believe it has happened, but I'm too lazy to look it up.

The 25th was meant to clarify succession after the Wilson and Nixon kerfuffles.

If Trump goes down, Pence becomes president and nominates a Veep, who will then be ratified by Congress.

Only if both Trump and Pence go down together does the Speaker rise to the office, although if Pence drops dead before nominating a new Veep, it would make for an interesting question. Probably, Pelosi is the new President.

(resigned and replaced by Ford). Pelosi is in line for the Presidency--not the VP

Pence becomes the acting president. He can nominate a person to become vice-president but it takes a majority vote of both houses of Congress to fill that post.
