General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSince the media is reporting that Trump is going to use a disinformation
operation, shouldn't we revisit how this is done to prepare for it? It would be nice, for example, to study the patterns and find the right words to counter their efforts.
Let's take the flag pin fiasco that, to this day is still a symbol of Obama's lack of patriotism. What it should be is a perfect example of how FoxNews brainwashed people.
I know very little about how this evolved when I should see it as the definitive study on right-wing propaganda. But, using what I know:
(1) FoxNews created a patriotic purity test with that flag pin. Obama wasn't wearing it one day and they went into hyper critical mode. They knew their audience. Republicans are pro-active when it comes to defaming people that aren't part of their tribe.
(2) When the other media outlets did not pitch in, FoxNews took it a step further. They said that Obama resisted on purpose. This meme took a life of its own that continues to this day.
Lessons learned:
1) We have to find a way to call them out on their mental midget reaction to tropes that a good American should be able to see through. They are falling for empty symbolism that keep them from thinking through the real issues.
2) And, for the love of God, the other media and Dem politicians need a better and quicker response to these calculated propaganda operations.
If we could only find an effective name for people who are so easy persuaded.

Half the eligible voters in the US don't vote. Give more of them a reason to do it with policies they support
