Russell Moore of the Southern Baptist Convention-
The reports of the conditions for migrant children at the border should shock all of our consciences. Those created in the image of God should be treated with dignity and compassion, especially those seeking refuge from violence back home. We can do better than this.
Jerry Falwell Jr-
Who are you @drmoore ? Have you ever made a payroll? Have you ever built an organization of any type from scratch? What gives you authority to speak on any issue? Im being serious. Youre nothing but an employee- a bureaucrat.
Built an organization from scratch? I am unaware of anything Falwell JR has built from scratch.
I am aware that he inherited a university and ministry from his late father Jerry Falwell Sr
As to authority on any issue, I am curious what scriptures Falwell Jr has been reading in his support for these abominations

(13,881 posts)You know how hard it is to make payroll while
paying off Trump and David Pecker, who have
pictures of me and my wife with the poolboy,
supporting said pool boy's fledgling business and
ruining the good name of Liberty University???

(73 posts)I have heard this argument from RWers before - if you havent made a payroll then your opinions are invalid and your ideas should be ignored.
How many times do we have to see that businessmen usually make for crappy politicians? Or that most extremely bright people have no interest in becoming businessmen?
Or that it is possible for an ignorant and uneducated person to succeed in business? Do you want the Duck Dynasty idiots making policy decisions?

(14,695 posts)to which they are totally beholden for emotional foundation. It's baked into the so-called conservative brain, and it's a sin to criticize the structure or any of its building blocks. The ones I've known don't get along well without it, or if it gets holes blasted in it (e.g., Nixon's downfall).
A typical right-wing one might look like this (with millions of variations):
* God
* Preacher
* POTUS
* Boss at work (payroll guy)
* Mom, dad and grandparents.
* Rush Limbaugh
* Senators and representatives
* Wife, siblings, friends and co-workers, etc.
The version discussed here relating to Falwell's statement is an extension of the prosperity gospel, which is one of the most evil twistings of religious theology I've ever seen.

(14,695 posts)I guess Falwell didn't bother to research who it was he was railing against.
On this guy Russell Moore:
(snip)
The Wall Street Journal has called Moore vigorous, cheerful, and fiercely articulate. He was named in 2017 to Politico Magazines list of top fifty influence-makers in Washington, and has been profiled by such publications as the Washington Post, the New Yorker, and the Weekly Standard.
------
Prior to his election in 2013, Moore served as provost and dean of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where he also taught theology and ethics. He currently serves as Distinguished Professor of Christian Ethics at Southern Seminary, and as a visiting professor of ethics at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. A native Mississippian, Moore and his wife Maria are the parents of five sons.
So, Falwell is having a holier than thou moment against one of the Baptist's top dogs.
Which, by the way is not necessarily wrong 'cause Moore was a supporter of the Gorsuch and Kavanaugh nominations, so he's a hypocritical scumbag just like Falwell.....

I wish Mr. Moore the best of luck in the rediscovery of Christian ethics I knew back in church in the 60s that have been lost now for decades.
Russell, those ethics and morals are there somewhere.....maybe lost under the pews.....

So, gee, I guess now my opinion can be considered validated by Falwell Junior.
Gosh, that makes me feel so good, that I've done something that he feels gives me the right to even have an opinion.
That said, Falwell is little more than a parasitic worm, feeding off ignorance and fear. And this? A twitter apologetic for our government's cruel and evil policies, inflicting misery upon children at a rate of $700 per head of taxpayer money, paid to for-profit greed-head concentration camp owners who are depriving these kids of basic needs TO MAXIMIZE PROFITS TO SHAREHOLDERS.
Fuck you Falwell, and the horse you rode in on. And mark my words - to those monsters carrying out this cruelty...there isn't any excuse for you. You cannot tell the court when you are put in the dock that you were only following orders. We didn't buy that at Nuremberg and we won't buy it when we try you. Because you are nothing but slime. Trump talks about draining the swamp - you ARE the fucking swamp, like a diseased, stinking, suppurating pustule on our nation.

(13,805 posts)is a good man. He is a Christian leader who walks the walk. I don't always agree with his theology, as I have a different background, but he is open to communication and cares about human beings.
Falwell's response to his compassion was the ugliest thing I've seen on the internet in a long while. It's shocking and alarming. I can't imagine why people look up to him as a leader within the Christian community. I'm pretty sure he's a businessman, not an ordained minister. That he holds any sway with the evangelical community is alarming as hell.

(52,076 posts)for decades? They acquired their vast wealth from flimflamming grandmas out of their social security checks. The whole lot of them should be investigated as a crime organization and at the very least any tax exemptions should be snatched away. It's astonishing, given the "pool boy" incident, this charlatan would even slither out from under his rock.
