US President Donald Trump threatened a Time magazine photographer with prison for apparently taking a picture of a letter from Kim Jong-un.
Mr Trump rebuked the photographer in the Oval Office after he was warned by an aide not to take a photo, according to Time's transcript.
The interview continued, but grew heated after the special counsel's investigation of Mr Trump came up.
"You can go to prison instead," the president said.
The interview took place in the White House Oval Office on Monday, two days before Mr Trump travelled to Florida to formally launch his 2020 re-election campaign.
At several points during the interview, Mr Trump asked to speak off-the-record, including in the moments after showing the Time reporters a letter he said was from the leader of North Korea.

(16,785 posts)That letter is part of our National Security protocols. Anything coming from a hostile Foreign country bent on doing us harm, the American people have a right to know.
Trump hates the Free Press. All the more reason to step up in doing their jobs.

(37,648 posts)I guarantee you that we'll see reporters in prison, if he wins a new term. He'll view that as carte blanche to do anything his warped mind thinks of, and a Republican Senate to support him in it.

(30,674 posts)2018 was too big a blue wave for them to flip. 2020 won't be.
I would laugh if 20 years of crappy local election management and partisan gerrymandering hadn't already made me desolate and without hope for this broken country. I can almost live with it now, but I'm old and don't have to live here all that much longer.
See you in the gulag!

(13,982 posts)I see no evidence that Dems wont be motivated to turn out. In fact, I predict record turn out numbers from Democrats. Its our jobs as activists to get out the vote in our areas.
If we do that, all the Russian interference in the world wont matter. We do have power. Dont let Trump and the GOP convince you otherwise.

(37,648 posts)A middle of the road "our candidate is fine, and certainly better than the alternative" won't be enough, I think.
Lest you think that's a dig against Biden, I'm not seeing any candidate that even approaches excitement by the masses. But it's early. Let's see what happens.

(63,221 posts)But Trump always has to brag and try to impress everyone, even though nobody in their right mind would be impressed by a "beautiful" letter written to him by Kim Jong-un.
I think he got so angry at the journalist because the letter was probably a very formal, impersonal letter mentioning something about how they had not been firing any missiles and were in compliance with the requests of the US government, or something like that, instead of a folksy, affectionate letter written to Don the "Stable Genius".
He was afraid for the world to see that he did not have a warm, personal relationship with Kim at all and that Kim was taking him for a fool (which he is) and manipulating him.
Kind of the way he talks about how Queen Elizabeth is his new best friend and hasn't had a better time with anyone else in years.
He seems to want to assume an intimacy with all these world leaders and to put himself on their level, but none of them take him seriously. In fact they all consider him to be a joke.
