2. Here is a more current photo:

I'm not sure what bothers the right wingers the most, the things she says or the fact that she dresses like an adult and not like someone who can be ignored.

4. Sister Joan Chittister,

A lovely, compassionate and great woman who used to write a column I read on a regular basis. She's a beautiful example of compassion, in my view a woman of greater breadth than Mother Teresa.

5. Good for sister Joan. It will be women like her that put the

screws to the Vatican, who will find ways to disenfranchise them and even ex-communicate them. It's happened before and will happen again. Nothing will change until the Catholics get a more progressive Pope.

8. She is the type of Nun who taught me ...........

in the '70's. She is the type of Nun who did not discipline me, when discussing abortion, I stated that I approved Roe v. Wade.

10. Mine was Sister James in the fifties.

She was very progressive in her ideas but had to butt heads with her Mother Superior all the time who was bat faced bitch.

7. I Love Those Truths from Sister Joan..

"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is."

Make It VIRAL!

Thank you, babylonsistah~

11. "Pro-Birth" is not Pro-Life. What a powerful meme! They love 'em for 9 months & then "good luck"

Her text: Sister Joan Chittister, a Benedictine nun, had this to say on Bill Moyers' show in November of 2004:

"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is."

What a true Christian, greatly to be admired and emulated. She is a blessing to all who heed her words.
