They still have to count it and you've fulfilled your legal obligation.

What matters is whether you answer at all. The count of people is used to allocate electoral votes. If you answer, no matter what you say, you are counted. If the question makes you worry so you don’t reply at all you don’t get counted. And you are not considered when electoral votes are allocated. Electoral votes are allocated based on the number of residents. The immigration status of a resident has no bearing on the allocation of electoral votes. You can say you are a citizen, an illegal immigrant, or an alien from outer space and you get counted.

You don't think they'd use the result to "prove" that the problem of illegal immigration is vastly worse than stated?

Stick in the spokes. Citizen nullification of the question. Seems to me. If it's legal to leave it unanswered, it would be a way to protest it, but still make sure everyone is counted. Might drive Trump crazy. Wait. Too late. Can someone check to see if we can skip it ?
