So this brain surgeon rings my doorbell yesterday ...

One gentleman and two women. They ask if I'm voting in the primary on Tuesday and I told them I vote every time. Now I've been on the other side of the door canvassing for Sen. Kaine (~1,400 doors) and Abigail Spanberger so I cut to the quick. He's a Republican. I was very polite but informed him that he shouldn't count on my vote.

He hands me a flier and I say, "Hey! That's you,". He's running unopposed in the primary for the county board. He asked that if I did decide to vote in the Republican primary (you have to pick which party you want to vote for/in here) to consider him. I ask what he does as a profession and he says, "I'm a neuro......" "Oh, you're actually a brain surgeon?" We all laugh and then I said a stupid Dad joke about remembering that the board ain't exactly rocket science.

All three of them crack up. One of the women with him is in the state House and she said "my opponent in the primary IS a rocket scientist".

Too funny.

Nice little chat then I ended it by saying that if any of them ever darkened my doorway again I'd find out where they live and shoot out their porch light. I thought it was too early in the day for the "your children will open their lunchbox to find it filled with your blood" thing.
😳
I'm kidding. That last part was just a joke.

It was really a nice little chat.

I make it really short and post a little note on my door or if I happen to open the door I hold the little note in front of my face.

It says:

Yes, I am registered to vote.
Yes, I plan to vote.
-Republicans:
I have nothing nice to say to you.
If you are a down ballot person, please thank the GOP and McConnell for waking me up.
It appears that your party has received my last vote. EVER! Locally, Statewide and Nationally.
The White House is CORRUPT.
The GOP is ignoring it and it is also corrupt.
NO R votes from me. You sold your soul and mine to the devil.
-Democrats:
Need I say more?

That is all I need to get them walking backwards down the walkway. The dems get a kick out of it and the reps are scared shitless of the little old crazy lady on the corner.

Ans I'm not afraid to tell people that.

But aside from a few stealth Republican school board candidates I usually scare off pretty quick, Republicans don't come to my door.

Yes, they can sometimes seem human, until we remember....

- They support policies that unfairly target and exploit poor people and people of color in housing, jobs and personal finance.
- They're all for forced pregnancy, but really don't give a shit about the baby once it's born.
- Advocate pushing even more of the tax burden on middle class families and the poor, even though rich people benefit far more from government institutions. Another of a plethora of ways they exploit others.
- Support a system of mass incarceration of people of color for minor offenses, while white people get probation and community service for the same crimes. All in the name of making America safe? For and from whom?
- Advocate policies and support industries that destroy our environment and wreck our climate, killing millions, perhaps billions from now until 2100 and beyond. But hey, they got theirs so fuck everyone else...even....gasp!....the unborn.
- Support the gun industry by eliminating any possibility of reasonable gun control, thus bathing in the blood of our children slaughtered at school...

.....Just a few reasons to loath their very existence. I cut them zero slack. They can kiss my ass.

but nowadays in many cases the GOPee probably uses database info to determine who is a hard-core Dem and stays away from those houses.

The 666kook666 brothers have the best database, i360, which includes extensive profiles of every 'Murican of voting age, including internet usage and social media activity. In areas where the kooks have a specific position, e.g. defeating mass transit, and consequently will send out people to visit door-to-door, they pre-screen neighborhoods to identify persuadable voters, then skip the rest. So, I suppose we can thank the kooks in this case from sparing us more of these visits, in races that attract national GOPee interest and support.

going door to door is a difficult thing never knowing what you'll run into. No need to give someone a hard time, it accomplishes nothing.
