I like what Pelosi has been doing so far. She is being patient, building a case for impeachment. Trump has been helping her. I wanted impeachment to start sooner. However, Mueller fucked it all up. Where is he?
I think it is fair to say the window for impeachment is narrow. Next year is the election, I don't think it is possible to start impeachment hearings in 2020. It must begin before the election process begins.
What do you think Pelosi will do?

(46,116 posts)That seems like the perfect time to do it. There's nothing in the law or Constitution that forbids it. If it makes us look "political" or "partisan," I don't care. We need the bastard out of office, and the best way to accomplish that is to cripple him while he's running for re-election.

(6,110 posts)More people hate him as he insults more people e every day.
He was never going to win in 2016. Besides, the argument that we must do it on principle has a lot of validity.

(6,110 posts)By the time they begin inquiry and all the necessary process is finished, it will be only weeks left in office. Nancy is right in putting impeachment on hold. If somehow Trump squeaks out another electoral win, that will be a better team to impeach.

(6,110 posts)He currenly donates all of his salary. Much more than losing pension, what will really hurt him is loss of prestige & ego due to impeachment.

(104 posts)That is happening soon. I think we can wait to see how that evolves before Pelosi "pulls" the trigger. The next handful of weeks has stuff happening.

(6,110 posts)With only 17 months before next election, it is not worthwhile effort. Most likely he will lose in 2020 anyway. If not, 2021 will be a better time to impeach.

(26,355 posts)I'm guessing Pelosi's thinking the same thing.
I'm for the slow-burn strategy, with the burn turning into a blazing inferno right about Election Day.

(3,622 posts)Dont get me wrong...I want him gone yesterday but I think the better course of action is to politically waterboard the republican party and their appointees and leaders.
Carry on the investigations, reveal the results to the public as they become known, and the public will dump the party, its leaders and will demand restitution/compensation.
If Trump is impeached too early Pence will pardon Trump and the rest of his cohorts. I'd prefer to see the issues addressed by a Democratic majority strongly supported by the population.

I think she'll hold it over his head as leverage until the end of his Presidency.
