(2,163 posts)to companies that would in source jobs back to the United States and eliminate tax breaks to companies that outsource jobs?
Maybe even give the bill a name like Jobs Initiative Plan.
I hate President Obama for not suggesting this.

(13,616 posts)I advise you to say so upfront, as today there are actual headlines that sound like jokes Comedy Central would have rejected. If so, would you kindly ignore the rest of this rant?
If you actually MEANT THIS, to all those who DO mean it:
I will only offer that when I became disbaled, the funniest sight I saw were the formerly wealthy. These were people who NEVER thought they would need ANY help. They are the ones who drove in using the expensive cars they earned in better times, who came dressed in Sunday Best, and who always tried to leapfrog ahead of the rest of us, because they were thinking that they should not even have to be in this "part of town." They are the ones who had the Bush stickers on their car, and the church stickers, from the same Church that told them they could do nothing for them, even though the preacher drove a Cadillac!
You looked at their face and saw that their mind could not realize that they were disposed of, that they had become the people they used to hate, and that it was absolutley not because they did anything wrong. They went to school, they worked hard, they saved, but someone got sick, or someone got outsourced, or some sheer mockign bit of fate that disproved the world they knew.
I wanted to be kind, and help, and maybe console them. After all, I was a fellow suburbanite that got smacked around by fate. But then I heard one of the children call me a dirty spic. And then I heard the father snicker. The second that they got better, I knew they would be kicking sand in my face yet again.
A lot of people will be in that office, and what is sad is, the power brokers will not be one penny closer to having enough, even as they piss it away in Shanghai, Dubai, or any of the new harbors set up for these pirates. And the churches will still sing hallelujah.

(13,616 posts)But the feds thought I was disabled, thanks to the way my asberger's/bipolar mind works. OK. Sorry to put the disclaimer, but right now, I see stuff that is a real headline that would make the editors of The Onion go "are you fucking serious?
Thanks.

What the hell can we do about the poor and lazy? Nothing. Just do nothing and join their revolution. Pretty darn easy.

(39,343 posts)I know that I should've planned ahead and sold two or three of my mansions for more than they were worth during the housing bubble.
But it's all ok, now. I'm living the high life now on my huge disability check. Now granted I'm not living like the CEO of a company that made billions in profit and paid nothing in taxes, but I'm doing ok. My 13 year old truck still gets me to the grocery store just fine.
Whoops, I've got to go, my little girl is hungry for breakfast, geez we just fed her yesterday.
<snarcasm break>
I do love how my rw family loves to talk about all those Welfare Queens that are destroying our country while living the easy life on their tax dollars. I have to ask them, "you mean me, right? I'm a lazy queen milking the system". Yea, sure, living like a king is what people on disability do everyday. I'm now bringing home less than a quarter of what I was making before a neuro muscular and auto immune disease started attacking my legs. I dont know of anyone on disability who wouldnt rather be working, healthy, and making a whole lot more than minimum wage.

The scary part is that what you're describing as dystopia, the GOP will mistake for a rallying cry.

(20,582 posts)Insane, isn't it? What man or woman would not choose to have a job that paid a living wage and be able to be proud to support him or herself and a family? ... vs. being looked at like some junkyard rat and judged as a burden and a waste? People who assume those living on welfare or social aid, or whatever, make me so tired. I wonder if they've ever listened to grandparents or elderly people tell of the suicides and all the other tragedies during the dirty thirties. There but for the grace of God / Luck / Whatever, go I. We seem to be losing our ability for empathy and compassion more every day, and that is scarier than shit.

(10,715 posts)In my experience, knowing more republicans than I would care to, one of the main things they have in common is the sentiment that "the poor & lazy are dragging America down. When they look at or think about "people in general", they think that the majority would rather not work, would rather live on handouts; they imagine that people in general are more likely to lie than tell the truth, and that most people cannot be trusted; they imagine that most people get or take more than they deserve.
Our side, in general, is the reverse of that - looking at the world, I see that people are mostly good, mostly honest, most want to work, most help out others as much as they can.
One saying - I don't quite remember where it is from - is that the world is a mirror; when we look out, we look in. We tend to perceive most clearly in others the faults that we possess in ourselves.
