We are in a political war with the Trump Party, formerly known as the Republican Party. They are a threat to our democracy and a national security threat, also. They are using lies and confusion as a political weapon.
At some point, we must realize that there is no compromise within the cards. It is about power and using all the weapons in your arsenal. The threat is very real.
Democrats are on their own. They can expect no assistance from the present Republican Party. We are in this battle alone.
But it is a battle that must be fought. We must stand on our principles and put political calculations in the back seat.
It is a tough realization to come to. These people are acting as an enemy of our government, led by their President, Donald J Trump. They mean to do harm to our democracy and our people. We cannot stand for that.
We must expend all options, including the Supreme Court, and including the impeachment process. The people must understand that we are fighting for them.
In the end, we will hope they will reward the Democratic Party at the polls. But that cannot be the primary motivation in this battle for the soul of America.

(20,999 posts)...the game with thinking, reasonable Republicans. They no longer exist. The tRump* GOP* are outright racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, rabid right-wing crazies that do not care about tradition, protocol or the rule of law.

(16,747 posts)They only care about advancing their immediate agendas. They would rat-fuck any liberal and/or progressive individual and would joyfully crush anybody who advances such ideas or has the nerve to get in their way.
The Republican Party is the party of hatred, they have honed this skill for four decades. They are a clear and present danger to the continuance and survival of our DEMOCRACY !
We must curtail and turn back this wave of advancing Fascism before lasting and irreparable damage comes to America.
We are at the precipice of no return if we do not act immediately, decisively, effectively to restore our Democratic Republic and beat back the notion that royalty or monarchy is our new acceptable form of governance.
We decided long ago that a Fascist Monarchy or a Fascist Oligarchy is not our cup of tea. We must stand firm in that regard.

(4,211 posts)What will it take for people nationwide to take to the streets in protest of our government being turned into an autocracy? How much destruction of our democracy are we to stand for before the public says "enough"?
We've endured this clown administration as it tears at the fabric of our democracy, as day by day, more and more of Constitutional law is obliterated.
When will the people say "enough" and go out and let them know that we the people are serious about restoring our country to the stature that it once had? What will it take? Or, will we seccumb like little lambs?

(53,410 posts)It has been a waste of time for decades. It was a waste of time when people marched against Bushs wars on Afghanistan and Iraq. It was a waste of time even way back in the Viet Nam war era during Nixon.
Or are you hoping for violence and loss of life? When did taking to the streets stop a single President?

(10,761 posts)and if it leads to community its not. I suppose the worst case scenario is a generation (millennials), who haven't typically voted or considered that important, continue to not vote. At that point democracy is just a voice crying in the wind, doesn't matter, power will hold and gather and increase what it has, and ignore all the rest.

A few short years ago, I would have laughed at that scenario. Im not laughing about it now.

(14,381 posts)Because it will be too impolite, and controversial and make Fox News mad;
Call them the TRUMP PARTY from now on, in every interview, or press conference. It would be one way to maybe....maybe...get under the skin of sycophants like Graham and McConnell.
You know what is at least one step up from strongly worded letters? Strongly worded language.

(15,174 posts)Most politicians like to think of themselves as leaders, not followers. They wouldn't like to be constantly reminded that the opposite is true.

(14,381 posts)McConnell and Graham like to think they are USING Trump for the wishes of the Republican party. Which is true. But its also true that Trump is using them. And that's the part they are uncomfortable with.

(35,898 posts)Chump snagged a lot of independents last time out, but those people are hopefully sadder but wiser now. They've seen his one and only trick fail too many times. For the people who are paying attention, literally anybody is better than Chump at this point. As long as we choose the right candidate next year, someone who appeals to a lot of voters and demonstrates no fear towards the Repukes, we will prevail. We must prevail and get rid of Chump.
