(10,501 posts)They are determined to tell a story in which we had already evolved to the point of considering female candidates and Hillary just happened to be the first person to take advantage of it.
She was given a lot of credit for opening the door for future women candidates at the end of the 2008 race. Which means that the argument belittling her today is premised on the claim that the media was way too kind to her during the 2008 election cycle. To those of us who remember that race, that is a bizarre recollection of history.

(33,030 posts)... even the ones we're not choosing to vote for. The insulting way Hillary was treated in 2016 can never be allowed to happen again.
It's not about whether you want to vote for Kamala, Amy, Liz or Kirstin. It's about us as a group supporting the right of women to run for national office. The GOP would like to intimidate us into not running, because they don't want us as opponents. I'm ashamed for the way some (few) Democrats treated her and for most of the Republicans as well. This misogynist behavior is not acceptable and won't be tolerated.
The media needs to decide if they believe in democracy or not. They cant or shouldnt get away with bothsiderism.

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
