'We need it now': U.S. farm country pins hopes on China trade deal

Corn and soybean farmer Lorenda Overman from North Carolina has been selling her crops at a loss and delaying paychecks to her workers since the U.S. trade war with China tanked agriculture prices, and her farm’s debt recently topped $2 million.

If the Trump administration fails to clinch a deal with Beijing soon to end the trade dispute, she says, her operation may have a hard time staying afloat.

“We need some stability, we need some action and we need it now," Overman, who farms in Goldsboro, said via telephone.

"I voted for Trump and I have no regrets. I still feel like he has a handle on what needs to be done but I am frustrated that we are still sitting here with no deal," Overman said.

ETA - China has found other suppliers for the soybeans. They're buying from Brazil now.

Those sales may never come back.

But they won't switch. Funny thing,Canada filled the latest China Soybean Orders. Golly Gee Whiz. Understand the settlement price was above market.

Hey Trumpers, you got to watch out for those Progressive Canuck's who are eating your lunch. Funny how that Socialist Farm Program in Canada works for them.

Didn't they put in orders around the world then start getting their own people to massively grow those products too?

but it sure sounds like she is regretting. She will admit to having regrets though, when she finally realizes there is no end game to this lie and that she is the loser.

Don't know that I can fault her for that: There's still a chance this might work out for me.

The question is, and we can all see it coming, what happens when her boy fails her? She stiffed her workers, she shined on suppliers, she kept the faith, and she loses her farm. Does Overman blame herself for backing the wrong horse? Does she blame Trump for getting into and losing a trade war that he claimed was easy to win? Or does she blame those darned libruls for giving up their tofu-eating ways?
