We WILL control our own bodies.

Last edited Thu Aug 23, 2012, 04:46 PM - Edit history (1)

No matter what anyone else says, we will. We will risk our lives if we are forced, but make no mistake, WE will decide, and NO ONE ELSE.

It's nobody else's fucking business WHY a woman wants to have an abortion. We don't need to have an excuse. Rape and incest are SEPARATE ISSUES.

Poverty and the lack of a social safety net are SEPARATE ISSUES.

Stigmas about pregnant women are SEPARATE ISSUES.

When you conflate these issues with our right to control our own bodies, you offend ALL PRO-CHOICE WOMEN.

I'm not implying that people on DU are conflating these issues intentionally and certainly not to help the right wing to advance their anti-woman agenda. But this needed to be said, I think.

We have the right to choose what happens to our bodies, and we will, no matter what.

And nothing less should ever be accepted. I thought this issue had been basically settled decades ago and remain somewhat gobsmacked that it still continues to be a salable wedge issue among the religulously insane and troglodyte classes.

Well said, indeed.

But the rape and incest issue goes to illustrate the depths of cruelty they would sink to for that pile of cells, and their complete disregard for the woman. Read that while about 50% claim to be "pro-life", only 20% agree with "no exceptions", so numbers are on our side. If bringing up the topic makes them look like the monsters they are, go for it.

It's about petty, little control freaks that have such fragile egos and are such assholes, that not having their boot on the throats on everyone, are incapable of functioning. Women. the poor, people of color, the elderly, etc, they are equal opportunity bullies.

crap. As far as I'm concerned, that will lead to women being forced to have a "legitimate" reason for their choice and someone else deciding that legitimacy,it's treating women as if they were children.IT"S NONE OF OUR DAMNED BUSINESS!!

Slavery was abolished. Govt cannot compel any person to be a breeder. Govt has no claim on that power -- it was never given nor can it be legitimately usurped. It is reserved for the people, not for the states, not for the federals. It is private beyond any legitimate issue of society. It is nobody's business but the person with the womb.

The constitutional right to privacy exists in our file cabinet drawers, how much more it exists in our underpants. Govt requires a damned good reason and a valid search warrant to look in our outhouses, let alone look up our vaginas. It is a violation of the constitution to even try to take social control of breeding -- it is a common law crime of aggression.

There is no historical valuation of a fetus as a "person". One cannot claim a tax exemption on a pregnancy. One does not get extra food stamps when pregnant. The census doesn't count a fetus as a person. The few instances of extra penalty of law for violent crimes against a pregnant woman stem from the violation to a woman's right to pursue her happiness, if she chooses, by bearing a child, which is violated and deserving extra punishment penalty -- it does not derive from any citizen rights of the fetus.

Fetuses do not have citizen rights until born: "NATURAL BORN CITIZEN" is intrinsic in our history.

A rape is a violation of a person's privacy. A fetus with personhood commits a separate additional crime by colonizing any unwilling uterus. The proper punishment for this aggression is the death penalty. Persons do not have any constitutional rights to parasite on and colonize the body of any other person -- no person, born or unborn, has that right.

Let the memes flow...

and there are two ways under that amendment that one becomes a "citizen" of the US. One is "born or naturalized." The reichwing freaks' reading comprehension is only slightly better than an aphid's.

I dunno what that means but it's funny as hell. In theater class we had to write a short skit on a current issue. My group took on abortion. The girl in the skit that got pregnant wanted one of those abortions of "convenience". Some in the group wanted it to be a result of rape. I didn't I felt that she didn't need to justify her choice that way. However, in the skit abortion had been outlawed so she got a drug over the internet and was in danger of dying. Her mother went out of state to a clinic to finish the abortion and save her daughters life. The reason she wanted the abortion, well she was 17 and had a basketball scholarship and wanted an education.

It was through personhood legislation. I don't know how you would be able to leave out the reason. Unless your character was older. In my skit she was 17 which would show a reason right there just because of her age which would make it likely she had plans to go to college. Just about any character you introduce is going to have some circumstance that people would be able to see and think that is the reason. But, you are right it would be nice if you could do this, but the fact remains if a woman gets an abortion most people are going to be curious as to why. This doesn't mean the woman has to tell anyone why or even tell anyone she had an abortion.
