1. What's the skinny on the indictment rumors for today?
I've been out today and haven't caught up on much yet.

14. There aren't any indictment rumors.
Mueller is submitting a sentencing memo for Manafort today.

2. I mean, the headlines were always "As soon as next week"
Which implies that it COULD have been next week, but could also be the week after that, or the week after that, etc.
People fell in love with the idea that it HAD to be next week, when the articles never said that. |

3. White House leakage-slash-wishful thinking
Too many loose ends for him to be "finished."
And I find it hard to believe that Don Jr is going to skate by without an indictment. |

11. it's an intentional strategy
the media reports the story based on the rumors, everybody gets excited and anticipates the report.
Nothing happens and the investigation continues... However, the media looks bad for reporting the rumor and it feeds into the Trump narrative of Fake News Just like the 2017 rumors of Jared Kushner being indicted any day now... still hasn't happened. And now we have Don Jr about to indicted since October or November of last year... still hasn't happened. It took almost 9 months after Roger Stone reported he was about to be arrested for it to actually happen, and he's not related to a Trump. When it doesn't happen, it feeds the FAKE NEWS narrative. If the investigation continues, it makes it look like Mueller is on a fishing expedition (or, gasp, a WITCH HUNT) because Kushner, Don Jr or somebody else was supposed to have been indicted a while ago. |

He is not beholden to either our wishful thinking or Trump's desire to have this be over.

7. Could be a tactic by Mueller
Could have let Trump and company think he was getting close and knew they would leak it, because he knew that often a lot of the best leads come at the end by people who are thinking, "well, it's now or never, I better say what I know."

30. Right!
Mueller won't be finished until all the little Trumpies are indicted and Kushner is arrested. He hasn't even started with Stone and Corsi, the National enquierer, Duesche Bank, and the House just handed off the official transcripts of hearing that are likely to bring down lots of Republicans.
Given all the unfinished business, and he held his grand jury for an additional 6 months, Mueller has a lot more work to do. Perhaps he will issue some interim summary report in the mean time. |

10. That was always just a rumor originating in the fevered minds
of some media people who were just trying to read tea leaves. I have never believed it, for several reasons: (1) the fact that the documents and data seized from Roger Stone were described as "voluminous" and consisting of terabytes of electronically-stored material; (2) the fact that the term of the grand jury had been extended for another six months; and (3) investigations normally don't stop with indictments; they continue through trials and guilty pleas. Stone has just recently been indicted and his case is nowhere close to resolution. The Russian defendants will never be tried here, but there is still the matter of the mysterious foreign corporation that is trying to quash a subpoena, and that matter is likely to continue through the appellate process. While some cases have been spun off to other prosecutors, it seems like there's still too much going on in the OSC for it to be wrapped up next week, or any time soon.

20. Predictions are always dicey, especially about the future
As mentioned upthread, the whole "Hoo boy, something BIG is about to break" seems designed to get the public accustomed to disappointment and lessen public trust in the media. While this same thing could be said about Trump, he just spews so much bullshit and comes up with new bullshit all the time that the media forget he promised to announce something or do something in a couple of weeks, and he's never ever held accountable. If someone does remember a broken promise, Trump blithely lies that he never said what he plainly said (and yes, there are tapes), and off he goes again.
For our part, I suggest we tamp down expectations a little bit. The more breathless the prediction, the less we should engage with it. If something dramatic actually happens, we can discuss it then. But this habit of haring off after every juicy rumor or bit of idle gossip just angries up the blood. |

31. I think it is all about trying to manage trump.
The whole spun up story about the whole 25th amendment talk on right wing media had him ready to fire everyone.
His handlers have learned if they can buy a few days he will see a new squirrel and be distracted. So they leaked the story to make him feel like it was almost over and now other things he sees on right wing media will make him move on. Or admittly I am full of shit. I know I am batshit crazy thinking I can understand this administrations thinky. |
