Most of it is coming from Donald Trump.
Is he not yet in Trump's corner??
No doubt, Mueller, his good friend, has filled him in on all the sweet details of the investigation by now. Rosenstein and McCabe are going public with their charges against Trump, especially McCabe. Barr, forever a partisan, probably had no idea what he was stepping in?
Trump is attempting to poison the well and to denigrate Rosenstein and McCabe before they are called before a hearing, probably from the Senate and the House? He does not want the information to come before the representatives of the people untainted. He has launched an all-out assault on McCabe.

Trump's case is the most scrutinized case in the world so if Barr learns of criminal evidence regarding Trump and tries to bury it he will likely have destroyed his whole career.
Anyone who hitches their wagon to Trump's is greatly increasing the likelihood of prison time.
Let's hope he's wiser than this and lets common sense override his dedication to the Republican party.

(10,828 posts)Though all things touched by the Trumpster are tainted (the ETTD theory), Barr has repeatedly been described as an institutionalist. As such, the war being waged on all our Institutions, done deliberately and with malice, would be an anathema to someone like Barr. There are the extra points given in that the man is a personal friend of Mueller, that he stated Mueller's probe was not a witch hunt. Reportedly, Trump was 'startled' by the cozy relationship between the two men.
None of this is a slam-dunk but Barr has a reputation to protect. If he's an honest broker and wants a legal career in the future, he will resist the overreach of the Trumpster and . . . do the right thing.
Yes, he's a Republican and worked for GW. But Mueller is also a Republican, as is Rosenstein, Wray, etc. The future of the country is in the hands of a few good men and women despite political affiliations. How good remains to be seen. And such is the case with Barr IMHO.

(4,267 posts)Of course Barr is and has always been aware of what's going on with the investigation. He's more than happy to "contribute".
I hope you don't believe because he's, supposedly, good friends with Mueller that he's on board to secretly do anything in his power to protect the investigation. You're in for a surprise if that's the case.

And Mueller does not appear to have close relatives advising trump unlike this clown Barr who's son in law recently took a position in the White House's counsel office.
Big difference there.

(19,060 posts)With the Trump Administration, it's usually what it appears to be, there's not a lot of thought put into much of anything unless it involves stealing money from the US treasury.
So with Barr, Trump read the memo he wrote critical of the Mueller investigation and said, "get me that guy!" There was no background work done, no real in depth thought into the decision, it was simply Trump making an uninformed decision mostly based on that one piece of evidence and gut. So he said, "Get me that guy!" and the next day they came back to him and said, "Looks like he has the requisite experience (They probably looked at his wiki page or at most his Linkedin profile), let's make an announcement." So they did.
It wasn't until they had announced it that they realized this guy has a strong relationship with Mueller, that they are friends. Trump automatically assumes everyone is corrupted, because he himself is corrupt and most everyone in his circle is a crook. He just assumed this would be his guy based on 1 thing, and he was wrong.

(111,089 posts)He did know that Mueller and Barr had respect for each other.
Could that have been his fatal mistake ?
