I've seen memes on Facebook - one said "the end of dumb blonde jokes" to talk radio hosts commiserating the death of a colleague mentioning sending each other the latest AOC joke.
BTW - notice she doesn't have anything there about the military. That simply doesn't compute in Foxworld. You simply have to wrap yourself in the flag. It's required.

(17,431 posts)that I frequent a sports forum that is rife with ReThugs. There is a "general" section on the site with various topics but politics is predominant. AOC is the subject of a disproportionate number of threads. It's mostly mouth-breathers denigrating her, but the amount of attention paid to her reveals much. And it's satisfying to know the right is troubled by her ambitious agenda.
Sleep well, ReThugs!

(14,565 posts)The sports forums are dominated by right wing white males. The "general" or "OT" forums on those sites are about as vile as it gets in terms of savaging anything from the left. Runaway fear. It reminds me exactly of my decades in the Las Vegas sportsbook environment, which featured the same demographic. They despise me because I can parry it, and I mostly laugh at them.
The sports guys thought Hillary was sub human. She is still hated and mentioned but after 2016 there was sort of a lull in terms of an individual targeted for their wrath. They turned to CNN as a frequent thread topic. But now Ocasio-Cortez is clearly the favorite. They use her as symbol for everything evil.
Fortunately the Political Forum on a Miami Dolphins site called Finheaven has evolved from heavily right wing when I joined in 2005 to most left leaning and extremely impressive these days. But that is the only transformation I have ever seen of that type.

(17,431 posts)Amazing how long that endured.
And AOC is most definitely a lightning rod. They are so incredibly threatened by strong women.
That's a fascinating dynamic you mentioned regarding the Dolphins' fan site. I wish that was the start of a trend.

(14,565 posts)Some posters took exception to the administration of Finheaven and started a competing site. It had a quick advantage because Finheaven was down due to a hacking. Maybe half of the top posters departed for the competing site including the majority of the right wingers who posted in the political forum. So when Finheaven rebounded the Political Forum was already less right wing due to attrition, and then steadily tilted toward the left. It was helped partially by the administrator in question becoming more of a moderate, and then opposing Trump. He lets the left-leaning discussion persist even when it would be cut off on other sports sites. This has evolved over a full decade.
I don't see that trend anywhere else. I post on pro and college football sites, golf, track and field, horse racing and swimming. College football is easily the highest percentage of wing nuts. That is true of national forums and also team-specific forums. Even if an area is considered liberal, the online forum discussing that team will be hard core right. Golf would be next. But those sites generally discourage politics and religion. Track and field has an amazing number of ultra right loons. Every day on the Letsrun.com message board there will be desperate threads ripping Nancy Pelosi or mocking climate change, etc. They allow people to post with ever-changing user names. One guy was posting, "Democrats are Gays and Trannies" multiple times in every thread. They finally banned him but it took a year or more. There is an ongoing Donald Trump thread on Letsrun.com that must have reached 2500 pages. It is primarily righties but a handful of impressive liberals. Horse racing forums are still right wing but not as much as a decade or so ago. Swimming is probably the most balanced, probably because many non-Americans post on those sites since swimming is such an international sport. Not a heck of a lot of political talk but when it does show up it is respectful and can trend both ways.
I've mentioned for years here what those sports sites look like from a political perspective. I am glad you are backing me up on it. I'll read about Trump losing by landslide here, and then I'll visit a sports site 5 minutes later in which everybody thinks he is the greatest American of all time and should be on Mount Rushmore already.

(1,444 posts)I think it might be the omission of an infrastructure proposal that is bugging them.
Oh wait, Fox just forgot to include it.
And Im sure there is a position on military spending that would cause real concern.

(18,470 posts)It's not just AOC but anyone in general who doesn't kiss Herr Furor's ASS.
Last month during the shutdown we had one of our local conservatives put in a letter to the editor that since fuck face won we should all stop resisting him. I couldn't think of a polite way to tell her to kiss my ass that would get printed by the local paper.

(16,959 posts)"politely" pointed out that over 3 million more people voted for Hillary Clinton and that the latest gain of 40 seats in the House of Representatives shows that his "agenda" is NOT the preferred one.
Not that she would have understood that anyway........

(18,470 posts)I thought of pointing it out too, but mine would've had too many swear words to be printable in the local paper.

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
