that, what was it? 20 or so women reported being sexually assaulted by Trump, and he was ON TAPE BOASTING about sexually assaulting women and he still became *gag* president.
Men who rape or assault need to be punished.
But why, oh why is there such a double standard?

(102,581 posts)payouts... So that is the punishment--untold wealth to do nothing more than leave?
Giving these perps millions of $$ is not exactly an incentive for other men to stop similar behavior.

(9,291 posts)but too much dirtying mess is being thrown in the past few weeks. If the republicans can always collapse us with the same issue from 10to 20 years ago, true or not then no one is safe. We as a party need to vet better, and we should knock out our own candidates.
A new election will be coming, find clean people ( no guarantees that the republicans won't make something up), but we don't allow the other party to steal our power. I'm sure the voters of Virginia will fix the ballot the next time.
The women can prove their case in civil court, after the election. I doubt this can be chargeable in a criminal court.

(25,183 posts)simply because there are two major political parties in this country, and they (and their voters) have fundamentally different standards of morality. That's why we are who we are, and they are who they are.
And, sometimes it hurts to be the better person.

(27,227 posts)No, I don't think we should give up our values.
I just wish that Republicans were better people.
They aren't, and that's just so hard to accept.
It make me hate them and wish them dead.
Seriously.
I no longer want them in my world.

Multiple false accusations even more so.

(27,227 posts)But, we are not talking about criminal prosecutions (AFAIK) in this case.
But there comes a point, FAIR OR NOT, that unless he is able to prove he is not guilty, he needs to step down for the good of Virginia.
This is because false accusations are very rare, and without STRONG indications that it is a smear job, we have to believe the women.
This is not a case of "beyond a reasonable doubt" in a courtroom. This is about the knowledge that most women have experienced some form of sexual assault in their life, and that reporting and filing criminal charges is not yet the norm. (Sadly).

(5,506 posts)If he steps down without a fight, he will be labeled a rapist for the rest of his life. He needs to fight back while he has some position of leverage to do it.
If he resigns to fight back, no one will ever care about the final results.

(27,227 posts)(I know, that sounds twisted and it sadly is, because we live in a twisted world).
But we have to weigh the whole case on its merits and right now I am not seeing anything that indicates these women are lying. If something else emerges, then of course I will re-evaluate.
And if these women are lying, they need to pay a very, very heavy price.
Because, yes, this is life-ruining.
If they are not lying (and at this point, I don't think they are) being raped/assaulted is also life-ruining. (Recovery is a long, slow road that has no end).
