(26,403 posts)She's absolutely stunning and beautiful to behold, her attitude with strength, poise and confidence, is inspiring. Her performance could have easily been entitled "Joy of Life".
Anyone who condemned her show what a fool they are. She is magnificent.

(51,590 posts)I was impressed when I heard her story when I saw her on TV after her achievement. She told about all her obstacles regarding body shaming for her weight and her many injuries and how she blew them all off. She decided she wanted to have fun for herself alone. That makes her a real winner to me.

"No one ever fully knew what I was going through, and I never really could say or publicize what was wrong with me," Ohashi said in a video for The Players' Tribune last August, noting that the pressure specifically when it came to her body and what she ate from fans and coaches left her "broken."
I was happy to be injured," she said. "I was told that it was embarrassing how big I'd become. I was compared to a bird that couldn't fly. These are all things that I heard before I even got injured, things that, when I was skinny I was told. So what would they think of me when I had become big? I couldn't accept myself. Gymnastics was my worth, it was my life. I hated myself."
Now gymnastics is just a part of her life."

(9,696 posts)After being amazed the first 3 times or so watching it, I though how nice she doesn't look all skinny. Until now, I didn't realize that was an issue.
I'm gonna go watch it again!

(81,242 posts)I watched with a 65-year-olds mentality. Ohhh look at that - OWWW! Lands in the splits - OWWWW! On the knees - OWWWW!
And then she fairly dances off, looking like she could do ALL that high-impact stuff all over again... OWWWWWWWWWW!!!
Shes amazing! That performance is astounding! And all the little filler moves, dancing moves and quick little poses and flutters and snaps, she never stops moving, even in set-ups for the next tumbling run. Astonishing!

She's 4 ft 10 inches tall and weighs 88 pounds!!!!! All muscle!!!!!
And would you look at that smile !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(65,340 posts)was considered at one time to be the best gymnast in the world. Simone Biles is, of course, also brilliant, but this young woman left the Olympic feeder circuit and found her own way.

(23,314 posts)She looks normal. Healthy. I battled anorexia for 25 years before clawing my way out of that hell. I remember when I hit the 115lb threshold, my mother and my boyfriend telling me Id gone too far and needed to eat less. I believe she is beautiful and perfect in every way. You go Katelyn!

(13,041 posts)People who criticize other people usually are insecure about themselves. It can be very hard and devastating to a young person to hear such horrible things said about them.words can definitely hurt. Which is why its important to teach and help our young people to have confident in themselves and brush aside naysayers.

(63,221 posts)She has no reason for self-hatred and anyone who finds a reason to criticize her is just an insecure, hateful idiot. I hope she goes on to have a successful, happy life.

(575 posts)because she was trying to live up to an ideal of someone else demands and thinking and found herself no longer enjoying gymnastics.
Then she learned to live up to her ideals and say goodbye to others.
She found joy in the sport she loved again when she took her own self back and enjoyed the sport for itself and herself.
lovemydogs
(575 posts)She said goodbye to body shaming and the stupid things that keep girls and women down. riddled with insecurity and eating problems.
They hold onto a man's idea of perfection
She showed all young girls and women with her routine that you need to be true to self, not let others define you and learn to find the joy in self, perfection or not. To love what you can do and what you love to do.
She is a hero to young women everywhere striving for someone's else's idea of perfection instead of your own
