7. The latest.. Gabbard attacks Mazie and Kamala..

Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard accuses fellow Democrats of 'religious bigotry' in questioning judicial nominee

Hirono’s office responded Wednesday that Gabbard was mischaracterizing her questioning of Buescher, and that the senator was voicing her concerns about the nominee’s past public statements rather than his religion.

“It is unfortunate that Congresswoman Gabbard based her misguided opinion on the far-right wing manipulation of these straightforward questions,” Hirono spokesman Will Dempster said in a statement.

He added that over the past two years, Hirono “has been attacked by right wing ideologues for her examination of Donald Trump’s ideologically-driven nominees to the courts.”

“Senator Hirono asks all judicial nominees — particularly those who have expressed very strong personal ideological views in conflict with Supreme Court precedent — if they can be fair,” Dempster said. “She asked Mr. Buescher, who has a clear record of anti-choice activism, whether he could separate his personal beliefs from decisions he would make if confirmed for a lifetime appointment on the federal bench.”

Senator Kamala Harris was also questioning Buescher.

You're Welcome, Hermit.. thank you! I feel like I've entered the Twilight Zone again.

Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard accuses fellow Democrats of ‘religious bigotry’ in questioning judicial nominee

That's plenty enough for me. I didn't know much about Gabbard before. Seems she is willing to advance RWNJ attacks on Sens. Harris and Hirono in order to get some limelight. Not a good move, at all.

10. Yes, sorry.. I just added the link..

I like yours better. lol

I've been posting that around DU and I forgot the link this time.

I know.. she totally blew it, afaic. I don't know who she thinks she's making political points with. Not the reality based crowd.

As if Senators Hirono and Harris are "religious bigots" or even coming across as one.

11. don't mess with Mazie

If Senator Hirono questions a judicial nominee on affiliations, my first assumption is that she's seen something troubling -- that maybe the nominee would rule in such a way as to bend law to fit ideology.

12. Exactly, Hermit. Sen Hirono is honorable.. you don't

come for Mazie unless she sends for you.

The "troubling" part was in past statements he made that had her concerned if he would be biased on the bench.. for his lifetime appointment.

And, Gabbard accuses them of "religious bigotry".

13. Gabbard appealing to the radically religious

Religious bigotry comes mostly from the right -- they want a theocracy to match themselves.

Judges should not bend the law to support religious beliefs; we need to be assured they can separate personal religious convictions from their rulings.

14. Oh, I bet Mazie

was pissed.

Standing up for herself from being attacked by a dem from Hawaii. As if questioning trump nominees, and being attacked by rw idiots weren't draining enough.

15. Mazie donates pay

For charities, the government shutdown could not have come at a worse time

By Marissa J. Lang

January 9, 2019

[ ... ]

Several members of Congress have pledged to donate their salaries to charity during the shutdown.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) is donating to Homes For The Brave, a nonprofit group that provides housing for homeless veterans. Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) said she would donate her salary to Hawaii’s food banks. Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) will donate to the North Dakota National Guard Foundation. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) promised her salary to HIAS, a global Jewish nonprofit organization that provides relief to refugees.

20. There's something SERIOUSLY disturbing going on here. I hope Democrats don't think they are

immune from "chaos candidates".

Can someone explain why some (for want of a better word) no-hoper candidates run in the Presidential Primaries ? I presume for some it's about raising their profile, but as a general rule, is it a profitable thing to do ?
