Newly minted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) responded to Rep. Rashida Tlaibs (D-MI) promise to impeach the motherfucker at a town hall moderated by MSNBCs Joy Reid in a clip aired Friday morning.
I probably have a generational reaction to it, but in any event, Im not in the censorship business, Pelosi said. I dont like that language, Im not going to use that language, but I dont establish language standards for my colleagues and I dont think its anything worse than the President has said.
Reid asked if the comment could incite a reaction from Trumps base, angered by the idea that some Democrats are coming into the House majority with impeachment on their minds.
I think it probably consolidates his base, but I dont think they need much consolidation, so I dont know if it makes that much difference, Pelosi said.
Thats not the position of the House Democratic caucus, she added. Thats freedom of speech of an individual member.
Some of the words [Trump] has used have a direct impact on peoples lives, she concluded. My colleagues comments do not have an impact on peoples lives.

(1,180 posts)My point exactly. This has been blown totally out of proportion by right wingers, and posters here, but Individual-1 has said much worse.

(14,249 posts)I'm sure Nancy doesn't appreciate being put into this position on Day 2 and having to answer a question prompted by a new Member's indiscreet comment - and no doubt she or a designee has spoken to Tlaib about this. But she's not going to drag her in public and walked the brilliantly walked a delicate line in her response.
