Suspect in California shooting in U.S. illegally, prompting Trump tweet

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A suspect wanted in the shooting death of a California police officer was believed to be in the United States illegally, a county sheriff said on Thursday as President Donald Trump cited the manhunt in his push for a wall on the border with Mexico.
Trump tweeted about the shooting on the sixth day of a shutdown of the federal government, which was triggered by his $5 billion demand, largely opposed by Democrats and some lawmakers in Trumps own Republican party, for the wall he wants to build.
A police officer for the city of Newman, a small Northern California town, was shot and killed there on Wednesday, after pulling over a suspect on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities said.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, exchanged gunfire with the officer before fleeing, Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson told reporters. The officer, identified as 33-year-old Ronil Singh, was struck by gunfire and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

(1,737 posts)about those being murdered by people who are here legally/ citizens? The buffoonery needs to stop. Bad people do bad things, no matter where's their country of origin.

(35,383 posts)It happens, and it's bad, but it's not Big and Scary. It's only serious news if it's somebody Important, like maybe a celebrity. You know, somebody better than regular folk because lots of people see them in the media.
But if there's an intruder who shoots the husband or wife after coming in through a window or picking the lock, it's bigger news because there are two crimes--illegal entry and then the *real* crime. If you stopped one, the other wouldn't happen, so people put up, oh, walls to keep people out and even put grates over their windows.
Harder to stop the first, but even then there are restraining orders and such.
not one of those other "newsworthy" act were worthy enough for a tweet from this POS. I am tired of the focus being placed on criminal acts by non-citizens, because our mob boss White house resident tweets about them.
There are murders being committed daily and some are due to reasons other than domestic violence. They are all important because a life or lives are lost.

(12,686 posts)I doubt the suspect would be Sikh (I suspect from the officer's name he was Sikh or Pakistani/Kashmiri); but there's just as great a chance he might be Eastern European, East Asian, or West Asian as there is he might be Hispanic.
