Percentage drop is what matters, not pointage. By percentage, today's drop was minor compared to Black Monday in the 80's.

And percentage drops are what matter.

For example, todays drop of 800 points, or 3.10 percent is bad.

The October 15 2008 drop of 733 points, or 7.84 percent, was more than twice as bad despite being smaller in absolute terms.
