Paradise man arrested for burglary in former Camp Fire evacuation area
Deputies arrested a Paradise man after he was found with stolen property in an area that had previously been evacuated because of the Camp Fire, authorities said Friday.
Travis Olexiewicz, 42, was booked into the Butte County Jail on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property, according to a news release from the Butte County Sheriff's Office. His bail was set at $53,000.
Olexiewicz was nabbed after deputies responded to a burglary Wednesday morning at a home on Cable Bridge Drive in Chico. The homeowners had recently been given the OK to return after being evacuated by the destructive wildfire that destroyed a large portion of Paradise.
About 45 minutes later, a citizen who lives near the burglarized home called the sheriff's office to report a suspicious man knocking on his front door. The caller believed the man was casing his home, the sheriff's office said.
