I know we are all sad, but we must keep things in perspective.
Bush 41 wasn't as bad as the other 4, including the child criminal we have today, but he wasn't anywhere near as good as the whitewashing we will see for the next couple days would suggest.
The only thing worse than Republicans is the media.
It's not like they will be looking into the graves in all them countries these animals played a part in filling.
Iraq, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Laos, and many many more.
I am sick of the "picture" of America our media wants to paint. They seem to leave the half of the canvas that should be black completely ignored.

(2,032 posts)This is one sick country.
murder, conspiracies, drugs and decades of international strife were the legacies of these republican presidents but the only one that was ever impeached was the Democrat that lied about a blowjob.

(7,079 posts)I agree that most Republican policies and presidents since Reagan have been bad for the US.
I agree US foreign policy is often far from noble, neither in concept nor execution.
I agree that a for-profit, mega-consolidated media landscape is far from ideal.
Those observations are a lot more nuanced than your post, however - to me, your post's overt and subtextual comments and critiques smell like administrative deconstruction.

Choosing what the media serves us.
Laws are for the poor and the powerless only. They rarely affect the Bush's Reagan's and Trumps of this world.
Much less Epstein's.

(11,885 posts)And every time they are allowed to escape any consequences we'll see the next time it'll be much worse. We can't afford a much worse situation , and is why trump and these people need to get the harshest penalties allowed , and to show justice is for all , not just the poor and the middle class, while the wealthy get away scott free or with minimal prison sentences.

(1,115 posts)I could not pass that remark up.
I read on line constantly and the media is so misleading (they seldom agree with me)
but their innuendos are disgusting. A good feeling I get is so many responses on
DU show me that I am not alone. Republicans are self-serving wannabe autocrats .
The Reagan's and Bush's are disgusting. The treatment of immigrants is appalling,
as is our health care.

(6,866 posts)we need to look forward, not backward. We tortured some folks.
I'm still livid about the Cheney TORTURE WORKS doctrine and these sorts of crimes of our past going unpunished is what got us where we are today.
In other words, if Trump does decide to shoot somebody in NYC HE MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH IT!
I mean, just where the hell is the line drawn these days?

(2,032 posts)No way he could look back. He had to clean up Bush's and 6 years of total Republican control too.
He couldn't look back.
We don't have the same restrictions.
Those who ignore history.....
You speak the truth but u forgot about all their enablers that helped them do their dirty deeds..Well in order to that you probably would have to write a book.. I can make that short in one word...RepUGLYcons..

(16,447 posts)conflicts. Of course there is no human-inhabited place on earth that doesn't have evidence of pre-colonial and pre-historic conflicts.
I think the most recent thread of atrocities in Vietnam started with the French wanting to be a colonial power. When they realized that they didn't have the "stuff" to keep Indochine in check there were some deals with the US to come to their aid. I am too lazy to look it up but I'll bet this started in the Eisenhower administration (1954?) with possible Truman precedents (falling dominoes.)
Johnson was no virgin but he did inherit quite a few messes from earlier US (Dulles brothers?) forays around the world. JFK didn't really have time to clean up much and it's not sure that his weltpolitik was going to allow Vietnam and the rest of Indo-China to find their own path. China at that time, as well as now, had very large aspirations also.

(29,483 posts)They are not going to punish themselves.
We need a *strong* conflict of interest policy that prohibits self-dealing and has a fast shortcut clawback process to relieve them of their spoils. Every one of them that had their hands in the cookie jar that was filled by the toil of American workers.
