(33,629 posts)The way to eliminate gerrymandering, voter disenfranchisement, and vote suppression is to take state governments out of the hands of Republicans. This is why GOTV is so important and will continue to be until we clean up the anti-democracy messes in multiple states.
Everyone who worked to create this blue wave can pat themselves on the back. We're better off today than before, and there are more artificial walls that have been breached.
It's not done, but it's better.

(15,235 posts)In areas where Democrats live in Red States their are far fewer voting machines. Long lines were reported; and bad weather was a factor in some places, causing people to go home and not vote or stand in the rain.

(22,673 posts)because they scored more total runs in the games played. But that's not how it works in baseball or in totaling all the votes run in every House race.
I really do not get why people are celebrating a popular vote win, especially in the Senate where a national popular vote is not a thing, nor could it be. Why are you celebrating winning a game no one was playing? Focus on playing the actual game.

The Senate was always a long shot. But we were competitive in places that we haven't been competitive in a generation. We won importsnt victories last night, and if we can keep building on that momentum we'll win yet more important victories in two years.

(15,310 posts)are the last bastions of homogeneous white populations. They literally are voting as if their lives depend on it. That's why you see Republican senators being elected even against the voter's own self-interest. They are fighting a losing battle, though.

(16,423 posts)The Midwest is slowly but steadily running out of groundwater, because it's depleted from too much agriculture. There are estimates, farming will run into serious water-shortages in the Midwest in 20 years.
When the farms die in 30 years, the people will leave the Midwest. The population there will shrink to negligible levels. Less and less voters electing a disproportionate number of Congressmen and Senators.
