I feel good about the house, and excited about the possibility of the senate. Fingers crossed. I learned though, it is what it is. Just a house win helps some, but this does not give us a magic wand to control Trump or the Republicans. I know we will want, and expect and that may be our loss in 2020. We Democrats never seem to be satisfied.

But, I feel good for a beginning of some power in DC anyway.

I've been distracted today. My poor dog had dental surgery so I was up at an ungodly hour, had to drive back and forth to Saratoga twice and of course I'm worried about him. I'm going to have to give him pills and he still won't even try a piece of cheese, which he loves!

And tomorrow I have a dentist appointment which I probably should have changed. I also had a dentist appointment on election day in 2016, unavoidable dental surgery myself, and that day was the unexpected start of this nightmare. Tomorrow is just a check up. At least my dentist - and her assistant - are in our corner so I can commiserate with them.

Glad you're feeling better. I just heard Maxine Waters speak and she always gives me courage. She is so amazing, 80-years-old, sharp as a tack and with the courage to speak out like no one else!

And I know! Yikes! Losing your connection now would be the worst! On a regular day it's reason to panic!

I figured you'd traveled the Northway. It's a straight shot, but you never know about traffic and tomorrow I have to drive ti Albany - in the rain. It's mostly been in the 40s and 50s, but it's supposed to get colder by the end of the week - and it seems like it's been raining every day.

At least I have Maxine - and DU - to keep me sane!

Tue Nov 6, 2018, 05:50 AM
Nov 2018

She's in NY2 running against that god awful Peter King, a true Trump lapdog, who's been in office for like forever. Her name is Liuba Grechen Shirley, one of the nicest persons you'd ever want to meet. Very intelligent, very compassionate, very strong and focused, not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. She's never held office before, she's 37 years old, an economic consultant, married, 2 kids. To give you an idea she was 12 years old when King took office. He's now 74 years old. No opponent has ever come close to giving him a serious race, so he usually runs unopposed. King has refused to hold Town Halls, because he claims it " “diminishes democracy”. Yeah, you heard that right...that's one of the reasons she decided to run.

To give you an idea: "Liuba Grechen Shirley Is Changing The Minds Of Some Steadfast-Republican Long Islanders" https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/liuba-grechen-shirley-long-island-peter-king-congress_us_5bd9f730e4b019a7ab59ccb3

King has been so nasty in their debates, always talks down to her, so condescending, such a misogynist but she holds her own, . Every sign we put up for her, winds up trashed, King's thugs make sure of that. it's been difficult getting endorsements too, everyone is so use to King, it's like they don't want to cross him, plus the area is kind of conservative.

I'm not in the best of health so my husband has been helping me with canvassing, and now I'm exhausted but cant sleep. I really want her to win, she is so dedicated and such a hard worker.

Sorry for the rant.

We do have some great Democratic challengers out there, and I'm hoping they all win, we desperately need them to, in order to escape from the nightmare that is Trump.

I'm going to have to take a nap before I go to the polls. Fortunately, I have my sample ballot at the ready so it will be a pretty mindless task once I get to the polls. I've been working hard with our grass roots group. I put out my last roadside sign yesterday. I'll be armed with cheep rain ponchos* to give away in case it rains while we're in line. I'm dressing up in blue and will gladly share my umbrella if need be. I was at the county board of elections yesterday and the number of road signs is astonishing. I've never seen it like this. There's going to be a large turn out for sure. I just want the odds to be forever in our favor, as the saying goes. Good luck to you. Fingers crossed.

The only reason I slept well is I took a pain pill. The staples come out of the incision for my hip replacement today.

If it hadn't been for the surgery I would have been a poll worker today. Already voted first day of early voting in NC. I think we're going to turn at least one and maybe more House seats here in NC despite the horrific gerrymandering that the Supreme Court has twice told Republicans to correct. There are also some awful Constitutional amendments on our ballot, including voter ID. Hoping to see them all go down in flames.

I so badly want to see a Dem win for Georgia and Florida governor's and Texas Senator. If all 3 of those come in tonight I am going to be dancing on my new hip!
