Registered as a D from I, in S Carolina bashing tRumps trade policies.
If he runs, he has the $ to stay in the race for the long term. I think we need to start thinking seriously about him running for the D nomination.

(23,371 posts)I dont have anything specific against him except that hes an old white dude. If we end up with an old white dude for our nominee, of course Ill vote for him but we have a treasure trove of inspiring younger women, men, POC to choose from and Id much rather see someone like that.

(6,496 posts)and even though I'd love a woman president, I think running a man is a safer bet against Trump. That way the sexists will have to consider more than just gender when they vote. A young, male democrat I think could win this. Preferable good looking because so many people will just vote for the best looking president. People just naturally like good looking people better. Trump is always trying to act like he's so masculine (LOL!), but if he were up a against a good looking, younger man he would look like a fool. Young guy wins in the masculinity department. I am feminist woman myself, but I'm just being realistic here. Democrats need to not risk losing this one because the country at risk. We should have the best candidate ever this time. No fooling around people. We need to appeal to more people than just liberals too. We need the independents on board with us and we need republicans to cross over and vote for us too.

(3,212 posts)I just say, at least, he's back to being a full fledge Dem compared to some who didn't switch parties to be in the race? And he was a Dem before.
Bloomberg wouldn't be that bad and has the knowledge and money to fight the GOP.
If he chose Julian Castro as VP or Cory Booker or Elizabeth Warren.

(24,404 posts)Bloombergs big negatives with the average American:
1. Hes Jewish. Racists wont vote for him.
2. Hes a New Yorker...just like tRump. Will be seen as the same choice as tRump
3. His voice is whiny
And for those who consider themselves politically aware,
4. Has changed parties too many times. Signals a lack of consistent ideology.

(6,709 posts)we are talking about Bloomberg in the Democratic primaries. And he's a non-starter for me.

(5,548 posts)How about we nominate a Democrat from the Democratic Party?
I have a certain amount of respect for Bloomberg but that does not translate to wanting him to represent us.
It is all part of the magical thinking that we are supposed to position ourselves in the middle and assume we get everyone to the left and some to the right. It doesn't work that way. The Republicans would just paint him as a New York Liberal anyway so we just end up with the worst of both worlds.
Don't get me wrong, I would vote for an inanimate object over Trump but we can do better in the primary.

(3,335 posts)i.e., register as a Democrat, run for office, and win and serve in a few seats, you develop a history that your future opponents will attack, and even lie about. Just look at the political ads on TV, the political attacks are craaaaazy. I'm sure the candidates would not even recognize themselves in their opponents attack ads. Even your former colleagues in the House or Senate will try and destroy you once you're in a competitive race. This is what allows someone like a Bloomberg, to sit on the sidelines, and run his own business, make a lot of money, and then one day decide he will run for office. He doesn't have the baggage that those who've run for office or been in Congress before have, and he'll waltz right through.
genxlib
(5,548 posts)The problem is that they will do the same thing to Bloomberg. They will paint him as a New York Liberal anyway.
I'd rather have a real liberal painted as a liberal than a moderate painted as one.

(26,382 posts)... can do it for us. Just what we need. A billionaire recent republican telling carpenters and bricklayers they need to work till they are 75 while Bloomberg has staff wiping his ass when hes too old to do it.
He can even quote Churchill. Oh joy. Whats next? Thatcher?
To reduce the deficit we must cut entitlements
http://www.ontheissues.org/Celeb/Mike_Bloomberg_Social_Security.htm
Q: Your thoughts on the sequester?
BLOOMBERG: Winston Churchill once said, "You can always depend on America to do the right thing after exhausting all other possibilities." We've had a democracy for 235-odd years and it works in the end, and that's what's in important. Sequestering is here. It will go on for a while. It's not going to be the end of the world as we know it. And everybody was saying, "Oh, the worst-case scenario is exactly what we're going to implement." And now they're into the real world and they'll try to find ways to do more with less, and then hopefully Congress will come together and modify sequestering to cut things back where we can afford it and not where we can't. And keep in mind, no program to reduce the deficit makes any sense whatsoever unless you address the issue of entitlements, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, interest payment on the debt, which you can't touch, and defense spending. Everything else is tiny compared to that.

(5,548 posts)Nearly 83 at the end of a 4yr term.
More than 8 years older than the oldest President ever (which happens to be Trump). With all of the concern about his declining mental faculties, it seems we should at least consider whether someone has another 4-8 good years left in them.
