But they are and if Rosenstein goes, Noel Francisco will take over, end the investigation. I expect that to all happen by this time next week actually.
AT which point, we have a choice, accept putin and a dictator or NOT accept them.

(46,166 posts)And I bet they're negotiating the sun, moon and stars goodies for Maine and Alaska, too. Those could be empty promises if the Dems take the Senate. All for naught. That would seal Collins's and Murkwoski's political fates. For the sake of American women, how I wish those two were running this November.

(288 posts)Grassley is the chairman of the Judiciary Committee. The vote he scheduled for Friday is the committee vote. Collins is not on the committee.
eleny
(46,166 posts)But Collins is pivotal for the full Senate vote. I believe her decision gives cover for Murkowski to vote against seating Kav.

(46,166 posts)Who knows what the Republicans are negotiating with her. And with Kavanaugh, too, so he won't screw Murkowski's constituents. This whole bloody deal is probably full of quid pro quo, back slaps and handshakes.
I have the suspicion that Trump has even promised Kavanaugh the Chief Justice position if the opportunity arises in the form of a Roberts early retirement. I wouldn't put it past Trump or Kavanaugh. No evidence tells me that Roberts wants to remain on the court into his 80s. I do see articles predicting that he'll be the swing vote after Kav is seated. Roberts may not like being leaned on by irritating calls from Trump who won't hesitate to try to influence his votes.

(47,209 posts)of pressure from liberals, but its nothing like the death threats and garbage theyll get from RWers will give them if they stick their necks out early. Not worth it for them.
If theyre hanging their hats on saying this process is wrong, then I think they have other concerns - likely a multitude of them.

We need the NO votes

Seriously, 99.9% we will get an ultraconservative justice, the chance of keeping the seat open and gaining a majority in the senate is real but...not good. The voters and nonvoters of 2016, left and right, decided that in their deluded "wisdom."
But if it's Kavanaugh, we not only get an eminently impeachable justice should we need to but we get one who is likely going to have further revelations coming out right up to the midterms. Could be worse. Like a "respectable" ultraconservative justice the clueless right could see as a great victory without reservations and the press could get right to work normalizing.

(18,713 posts)For him to reveal he has evidence of potential criminal behavior and threaten to release it but then withhold all specifics and names makes it nothing but a rumor.
This achieves nothing but a reason for Republicans to speed up the vote since it can be pushed aside as political gamesmanship.
He should either reveal who his clients are and what they will testify to or not say anything.
He often seems to threaten that he has ground shaking information but then not follow through with specifics.

Grassley and McConnell are looing at the statements from the swing Senators & rumors of more sordid stories - and figure it's not going to get any better.
