Grassley and other republicans are stating Dr. Ford has not yet confirmed. This is disingenuous.
There is a reason that Dr. Ford as yet to confirm. There is a fight going on, lead by democrats on the Judiciary Committee, in which they are demanding a FBI investigation as well as arguing about the presentation of witnesses and format for the hearing.
Dr. Ford's attorney is also calling for an investigation prior to a hearing as well as the ability to call witnesses.
The republicans are playing games. They want a two hour "hearing" where they say "thanks lady" now lets go have lunch and vote.
The republicans are trying to pull a scam.

(2,600 posts)The FBI in and of itself has broad authority to investigate legal wrongdoing. It would be Rosenstein's call first to either call it off or let it proceed or that's my understanding of the chain of command in such matters.

(15,190 posts)Because Kavanaugh has not been formally charged with a crime, the FBI and DOJ don't have any jurisdiction in this.

(1,058 posts)this isn't a federal crime, the FBI has no jurisdiction, and Maryland isn't going to open an investigation into a 35 year old sexual assault allegation, too much time has passed.

(1,058 posts)The allegation is not a federal crime, it's a state crime, the FBI has no jurisdiction to investigate a state crime and the State of Maryland isn't going to open an investigation into an allegation from 35 years ago, too much time has passed.

(67,782 posts)....that takes more than a day's notice. They only decided either yesterday morning or over the weekend to even hold he hearing.
Flying from California to Washington is about six hours, and then there are times zones/jet lag to worry about. Give us a break Grassley!
Oh it's going to be a barn burner of a hearing, whenever it takes place.

(7,228 posts)Leaving out all the negotiating logistics you mention.
Care and concern needs to afford Dr. Ford a fair process, not a circus.

The only one who can order the FBI to investigate is the WH, IE: Trump.
What are the chances of that happening?
